Actually, I think the new STS is a nice car. Have a friend with one, and just for fun went to test drive one the other day since my wife will be looking for a new car in 6-12 months.

While I'll be the first to tell you, the STS is no BMW, IMHO it was a very close 2nd. We tested the new Lexus GS430 for fun and it was lacking. We tested the Audi A6 for fun, and it was lacking. The STS (loaded model) was the closest thing to an e60 that we played with.

Nobody should be sad at "settling" for an STS, but yeah something like a 545 or 550 would be even better

I came really close to getting the STS. It is a great car. IMHO better than any other competitor. Easily a good 2nd.

Actually, it is not a Pontiac. It is basically a Holden Monaro with a different fuel tank and trunk to meet U.S. regulations. Holdens are built in Australia. Here is Holden HSV video (HSV is Holden's high-performance cars) from a year or two ago. It now has the 6.0 400 hp LS2 from the new Corvette.

Here is a review on the revised 2005 Pontiac GTO

The Pontiac GTO is a subtle yet high-performance car in a way that the new M5 isn't (first three M5s were subtle).

The 505 hp STS SAE looks nice. It pays homage to the 100th anniversary of the Society of Automotive Engineers.
