Yeah I hate the up keep up of a black car, but the car will be living in a garage most of its life and driven pretty infrequently so it will always be freshly waxed and clean.
Is carbon black more common on E60's? I am not sure if I have even seen sapphire black metallic in person?
I really want Red or Blue but I realize that they are pretty rare.....

I love black cars (when they're clean of course) as they look mean and mean is the image of this beast. However, if you like to mod and make your car unique, body mods don't stand out much on a black car. You have more options to do unique things with other colors. Accents like carbon fiber set off on other colors but they just blend in on a black car.

My Ride: 2008 550i sport
By the time you end up reading every post in this thread, you may be more confused then when you started! So many people have so many good points...how do you choose? Being young and fortunate enough to have the shortlist you do....I don't think you can make a bad choice. Surely, here on the 5 series forum, you are going to get a bias towards an M. I have owned 4 BMW's...none of them an M. I did have an 03 330i with the Performance Package. I should have kept that car. It was amazing. Not that i don't adore my e60....but I should have kept that car.
My opinion is go with an M if your budget allows. I don't think you would be disappointed with your choice. Good luck!

The M5 only came in sapphire black.

The interior is also silverstone, and I do not love that....

I have a problem.
The more and more I read about the M3 Sedan DCT the more and more I like it
The reason the M3 sedan is enticing to me is because around town it is more fun and around the track it is more tossable, add to the fact that I will have the balance of the original factory warranty and the DCT is arguable better than the SMG, and the Manual is well matched as well.
Also, If I decide to keep both the M3 and M5 (who knows if I will) for years to come I feel like the M3 will be cheaper to maintain and repair, not to mention mods will be cheaper and a plenty.
Gas mileage may also be a tad better especially with the DCT. I do not care about this too much, but the range may be a tad better.....
Some one tell me I am crazy!
I need to stop flip flopping......
The interior specs are interesting as well (using Edmunds, not sure how accurate)
M5
Interior
Front Head Room: 37.7 in. Front Shoulder Room: 57.3 in.
Rear Head Room: 37.8 in. Rear Shoulder Room: 57.2 in.
Front Leg Room: 41.5 in. Rear Leg Room: 36 in.
Luggage Capacity: 14 cu. ft. Maximum Cargo Capacity: 14 cu. ft.
Maximum Seating: 5
M3
Front Head Room: 38.5 in. Front Shoulder Room: 57.5 in.
Rear Head Room: 37.5 in. Rear Shoulder Room: 57.2 in.
Front Leg Room: 41.5 in. Rear Leg Room: 34.6 in.
Luggage Capacity: 12 cu. ft. Maximum Cargo Capacity: 12 cu. ft.
Maximum Seating: 5
I saw different specs on MSN, so these numbers could be off but it does not look like a huge difference.
Someone please convince me to buy the E60 M5 or M3. This decision is so tough. I am even having thoughts of an Audi RS4 but honestly I feel even more cramped in that car than the M3 or M5 so thats most likely out.....

Hate to say it but you need to make up your own mind. Our opinions are just opinions and you're the one to live with your decision.

The M5 has pretty much been picked already, just hesitating a little bit on the purchase
But on the flip-side hearing peoples 1 year ownership experience with the new M3 is insightful. It seems like most people have been happy going from the E60 M5 to the E9X M3.....

Put it this way, if you pick one or the other, you wouldn't know what you miss by not having the other car.
