I dont like this idea from the first time. I prefer put my foot on the brake than relying my life on the "famuos" unreliable Benz.

Also, how fast do you figure the test car was traveling? 65kmh maybe?
I think to remember it was 55 Km/h, but not so sure anymore about it.

Wait didnt they already launched this system? I thought top gear reviewed it and said that the new S Class will be able to stop completly applying 100% of the brakes for you.

I think the system was released in the late model S-class cars already but they might be "improving" it for the newer S-class model...

Yes. It is out allready, but the car can't be stopped completely, youhave to use the brake yourself and the system helps you! (and fails...)...

I don't think that we should bring out the rope, yet.

I just love the competition, a new S-classe M-B always have to bring out something extravaganza!

Remember that we are looking foreward to software update 20!

This journalist is so OWNED!

He works for Autobild, is the testdriver in this thing.
Before he starts the demonstration he is on the phone with his magazine, discussing the title: Rescuer Radar.
BEFORE the test!!!
Than he takes the blame and claims it was HIS fault, in front of the TV camera, AFTER he discussed it with the MB engineers.
The TV team wants to ride in the rear seat and the engineers say it's OK. The dude then discusses it with the engineers and let them know that they will then notice the missing beep, and suddenly the engineers are trying to find an excuse to not let the TV team be in the car for their safety...
A couple demonstrations now... NO BEEP at all...

In the studio an appologize from MB and no comment from Autobild.

Now, as requested, the video:

Link to the website of the TV magazine making it public

Rightclick and save as (65.1 MB !!!) => LANGUAGE is GERMAN!

Being allowed to be the test driver in a MB demonstration of a new safety feature: A high circulation of your magazine
Writing the story before the test, taking the blame for a failure and making the mistake of forgetting the mike of the TV team while discussing with the engineers: Priceless.

EDIT:

It seems the DSL version has a problem, it doesn't play all the way through.

But you can click on ISDN, it works all the way.

Here's the link for the download of the ISDN version

Thanks Iceman for posting the video. I knew it had to be out there somewhere -- unfortunately I forgot about the German language part -- thanks to your detailed description of what happened, I was able to sort of figure out what was going on...

This week the journalist who was the test driver got fired.
His boss finally was in the TV studio and... well... he made a fool out of himself because he was still not admitting that they are lying. Anyways, they fired the dude and the TV team made another test outside of the building... And the system worked...
But the question remains...: what happens if there is a lot of steel around? Or a tunnel?
However, a very funny story that shows that you can NEVER EVER trust ANY journalist!
