New MB S-class pre-safe system failed-s_klasskrock_320pix.jpg

When MB demonstrated S-class's new pre-safe system for german TV it went really bad. The system was supposed to avoid a collision, but did not. The three S-class cars instead crashed into each other. Pretty awkward situation...

Looks like it was foggy. Maybe they did not have their foglights on Does this mean that more than one vehicle system failed?

They tested the system in a building made from steel. MB says that all the steel confused the radar system. In real life driving there should be no issues with the system.. Time will tell. <_<

That pesky steel -- always moving around, dodging those dopplers...

Love to be the radar analyst on that task - well where did the signal come from? here, der, everywhere Wonder if the marketing people that set up test talked to their engineers?

You would think someone as big as Mercedes Benz would perform a trial-run of their demonstration before airing on TV, but I'll remain optimistic. I'm sure they ran some tests prior. I just think something else went wrong. Perhaps there was interference coming from the media's equipment while filming/recording the event.

Mercedes stating that it was all the steel surrounding them doesn't make their case look any less idiotic.

At any rate, what is the premise of "Presafe system"? How is it suppose to work?

Yes, I wonder how it is supposed to work too. And, surely they had tested the system under similar circumstances. Maybe the system just simply failed on the trial.
