What are peoples opinion on this?

I may sway depending on residuals

I know this is a concept, but not too far off the production car.

Not a chance, too many quality issues to make a dent in BMW

If it is priced to compete with E60 & it is as good as it looks, then it will take a lot of sales. Lets face it, E60 is not without quality issues!.

My first look was rear 3/4 and that is very nice, clear line from the shoulder back, the trendy coupe style 4 door works well here. My first look at the front was more head on, and that looked ok, if a bit too much Audi grille meets e60 lights. But the 3/4 front reveals the grille sits high, making it almost Dodge Ram/ Caliber looking, and this leads to a hood that is too busy. Look at the power dome, scoops, the bulge trailing from the headlights, plus the lines to the grille. Sometimes these things all come together in person, and maybe some will be cleaned up in tooling for production.

That said, it should appeal to Jag fans. I nice link to Callum's two doors. The interior seemed a big break from what Jag sedan buyers might expect, though, if it makes it to production. It likely will take a chunk of 5er potential sales for people that value style, like to be seen vs. driving, etc. But how it drives will determine if it is a real threat to BMW.

The 2006 JD Power initial quality survey says otherwise. Jaguar came 5th, with 109 problems per 100 vehicles. BMW, by contrast, had 142 problems per 100 and placed much lower. Jaguar also came first in 2006 for sales and dealer satisfaction.

See, that's the problem with being an older bugger. I remember the problems they have had in the past to clearly and it takes a while to change perceptions.

Sigh !........................ back to the pipe and slippers...............

Yes Jag values drop like a stone. Plus although this is amazing, we would all have one of these, there are some more acurrate pictures.... its nice but looks nothing like this.... I would cut off my left testicle to drive a car that looked like your pics.... The real new jaguar looks nice but no body parts at this stage will be traded. Check worldcarfans.com select europe etc...... DUH!!! as if you dont know how to do that

Ian Callum is indicating that the production S-Type won't be a million miles away from the concept (much like the XK and XKR are reasonably close to the ALC concept) - let's hope he's right!! I looked at the new XK the other day, photos really don't do it justice - it's a beauty. Front grille aside, from many angles it really does look like it came from Newport Pagnell and not Coventry - in the flesh it looks a lot like a DB9.
