Here's an excellent XJ review from one the very best automotive journalists in the business:

I don't know, I saw it at the NY Auto Show this year and I can't say it was all that striking... maybe I need to take another look at it Is there even a Jag dealership in NYC?

I don't know about you but for me, I'm usually like to get a new car that performs better than the one I have, not the same (or not worse).
I really like the F10, but am a bit put off by the 400 lb weight gain. I think that the dynamic chassis compensates and the ride is equal to my E60 Sport, but I don't think it raises the bar, certainly not significantly. And as swajames has stated, the XJ's really a 7 series competitor. That's a very good car, but it's not winning any rave reviews for its handling.

I sat in an F10 again tonight just to ground myself. It's very nice. But the interior of the Jag is mind blowing, espcially with non-Jaguaresque black leather, anthracite headliner and carbon fibre trim. Stunning.

You may be right Rudy. I may just be ready for a change.

I don't know about NYC, but judging by how many are on the streets of Long Island, there's got to more Jag dealers there than Starbucks.

OK - once again a brief flirtation with a non-5er has ended. The Jag is a great - and a beautiful - car, but it's just too big (even in SWB form) for me to be a true sports sedan. Now the wait for the new M5 . . .

Not so stupid.

I test drove the Jag XJ the other day and was very impressed too. The exterior styling is absolutely stunning as you walk around it - it made me wish BMW had the balls to do as much with the F01 & F10.

And that XJ interior is delicious. One thing that really bugged me though was that the instrument display was 100% computer generated ... and when you see a fake jeweled speedo and tach, well, it just looked so very out of place in that interior. Ugh.

But for that price (upper $80s) I'd rather buy an E60 M5 now or even wait until the F10 M5.

Good move to hold off for now.

By the way, have you driven the XFR ... could be a good stop-gap until the next M5.

I climbed around an XFR after I wrote off the XJ, but it just doesn't have the same feel that the XJ has. My guess is that the next-gen XF will be a real contender.

So now I'm sitting on my hands, waiting for the M5 and hoping it stirs my soul a bit more than the 550. Of course the A7 that was just introduced looks interesting . . .
