I've been driving the new short wheelbase, supercharged Jaguar XJ this week. 470 hp, about 4200 lbs, equal road performance to my 550 Sport - and it's drop dead gorgeous inside and out. I can't believe how much I love this car. If it had a blue and white roundel on the hood, I'd already have placed an order. But after five 5s, it's tough to switch (I know, I know - especially to a Jag!). Otoh, I have to admit that after all these years driving basically the same car, I'm very tempted to try something new. It's the wrong place to ask, but how crazy is this . . .

I like the new XJ a lot - the rear pillar design is better in some colors than others, but otherwise it's an absolutely beautiful car. I consider the interior to be about the best available on a real world production car - it's spectacularly good. Great engines, and a great ride/handling balance. I've yet to read a bad review.

I've always preferred Supercharged motors vice Turbocharged ones. Since BMW is going the turbo route I'll be giving the Jaggy and CTS-V a good look when I decide I want a new car.

XJ is truely beauty car to look at
I am sure its good to drive too
but i was let down by the interior craftsmanship, found few leather trims was not properly joined.
Maybe just the one i saw.

But i got to say it is the sexiest luxury seden on sale now

Ouch!! I'm 51 years young - and one of the ways that I stay young is to keep challenging all those beliefs that I "just know" are right. That's why this dicision is so difficult. Driving this car just may change what you - and me - and all other BMW drivers - have always thought about Jaguar. You gotta stay open-minded to stay young.

btw, none of you other guys are making this much easier for me! swajames, you're right on the C-pillar thing. I know what the designers were going for, but it was lost in execution. The car's gotta be black until they fix that.

I have a difficulty with something else you mentioned in your OP...

You said "470 hp, about 4200 lbs, equal road performance to my 550 Sport" and, assuming it's true (and I'm not doubting you), you're measuring the Jag against a bar that has just been raised by the F10. I don't know about you but for me, I'm usually like to get a new car that performs better than the one I have, not the same (or not worse).

That said, if you're ready for a change, then you're ready for a change... Good luck with your decision!

Rudy, don't forget the XJ competes with the F01. For a car that competes with the 7 Series to be as light, or lighter in the case of the base XJ, as the F10 550 is quite an achievement. Just as the F01 isn't as agile as the F10, nor would the XJ be expected to be - it's a car from a higher segment and its mission is different. The more appropriate F10 competitor is the XF.
