[quote name='gabman' date='Feb 15 2005, 08:43 AM'][quote name='BurgessMW' date='Feb 15 2005, 08:13 AM']I also have an Infiniti G35 though mine is the coupe.? I've not yet driven the 5er in snow as we've not really got that much this year, so far.

I think the 5er will be fine in the snow.? I've had it out in bad weather and it handles that fine.? Wish I could help you more with the snow, all I can add is the 5er is faster, handles better, is more comfortable and is right close on MPG (20.0 for the G and 19.2 for the 545i).

Thanks for the comments. I am taking delivery end of next week, now I have to decide whether to put on the winter's for 5 weeks or take a chance that our easy winter will last through the month of March.

If I get a chance to drive the 5er in the snow before you take delivery, I'll try to drag this back up and let you know what I think. BTW, I've also got the all seasons Contis.

It's actually supposed to snow for the evening commute today but I'm in the coupe today.

Signed, sealed and only to be delivered. Am supposed to take delivery by Feb 28/05 at the latest, may just land up giving my G35 back early. Kind of hoping that winter takes a hike early this year. I really do not want to put those winters on for 4 weeks and then take them off.

Boy am I going to have some fun.

congratulations gabman on your decision.
my e60 went through a lot of snow and aweful winter icy driving conditions the last few months, i use dunlop m3 17" winter tires which transformed my car into the ultimate snow mobile. does really felt like on rails. the drive will be very much more 'confident' than your infinti, you will instantly feel it.
the performance summer wheels are not recommended by the manufacturer to be used in snow and all seasons will not be ideal for winter conditions in your area.

the e60 is rock solid and grips like no tomorrow, on bends and curves the dsc works like a charm. though i prefer it off.
i gradually learned better control through the slips, drifts and slides. a lot of fun! can be dangerous at first but i pratice in empty parking lots at night.

i strongly suggest to put on the snows when you pickup your car next week (there is going to be at least another 2 snow storms our way till april), for your and other's safety. you have a brand new bmw for crying out loud!
i will even want you to spend a bit more on another set of steel / replica rims, it is not wise to take the tires off and on your gorgeous oem bmw rims twice a year, each and every thereafter.
my 2?
will be looking forward to your pics, bring a camera when you pickup your car.

Once you drive Bimmer you will never understand what you saw in the Japanese cars. There is absolutely no comparison at all !!!! You will love this car. I went from all Japanese to my 2002 530i 3 years ago. This is the best car I ever owned/leased. IMO go with the sport package. The handling is great. Right now I am waiting on delivery of my new 2005 545i . Orient Blue/ Auburn leather/sport/nav/sirius/ logic 7. Needless to say I cannot wait !! Good luck.

You are funny dude that cracked me up.

I trying to figure out if I should order new rims/tires if my 545 is coming in late March? I live in NJ. Also it is a lease, so I am reluctant to invest in the rims, although they are 225/17's that are pretty common and I could probably sell them/use them on my 560 in a three years.
