My sister recently purchased one of those ant eater looking Mercedes R350 things. Personally, I find it hideous but Mercedes made her an offer that even Don Corleone couldn't have refused. The sticker was $61,000 and her lease is Under $500/month with no money down. What a bargain. Or maybe not. To date, in the 3 months she has owned the car it has been in for service 9 times for various ailments. I read in a recent issue of Consumer Reports where the three most unreliable marques sold in the US were Jaguar, Range Rover and Mercedes; certainly true in my sister's case. It's amazing because for so many years Mercedes was the icon in strength and reliability. Now it seems like everyone builds a more reliable car. I wonder if the Yugo was reintroduced how it would fare.

I have a few friends who own Mercedes and have not heard of any complaints. One of our senior members here, Vegastrashed recently switched from his 545 to an E63 AMG. Maybe he can chime in on his experience.
Might be luck of the draw for some.

My dad has owned quite a fair share of MB's cars. His most recent being an 2004 S Class and a 2006 SL 55. All the ones that were built from 2001 and up have been problem free. The same thing with our Range Rover, not one problem. I think he is just really lucky lol.

Thats what happens when you J/V with american car manufacturers (i.e. Ford and Chrysler)...Nothing beats a BMW...hands down best car for the $$. My wife wants a E class 4matic. not sure what to do... may have to learn a lesson the hard way.

I guess it is a hit or miss with any car manufacturer regarding liability. I have friends that have Range Rovers, MBs and they have had a laundry list of issues and others who do not have any issues at all. My dad has a '94 S500 and it is still problem free, except for the folding mirrors switch broke. It seems that the later generation models of MB and RR are not as reliable as they used to be and have become the victims of cost cutting. Oh well, long live BMW!

I've had my E63 for five months and the only problem so far was that it was leaking transmission fluid. There is also the matter of the car starting in 2nd gear while in D/S mode when it should be starting in 1st. Not worth taking it into the dealership for a fix yet. So, far so good but then again it is a garage queen.
