My BS meter is going off.

As far as I am aware, all airbags are constructed with vent holes/flaps, etc. so that the airbag deflates promptly after going off so that the occupants can escape the vehicle. This story (required scissors to get out) would require that this not be the case in the new MB's.

What city and dealership did this occur in?

You do make a goof point Biff. After an airbag inflates there is nothing to keep it inflated and all modern airbags deflate through vents quite quickly after inflation. Does seem very odd.

As much as I hate the new Chrysler-Mercedes cars I got to admit I love the new S Class. Probably because its interior is 95% BMW 7 Series.......

Haha...that's right. We have been Merc fans for a while and we were looking to replace our suvs to try out family sedans. We picked the S550 first. Then I saw the E60 and loved the styling. My wife couldn't talk me out of it so she is claiming the S550 for herself. She even picked a color which I dislike. Anyhow, I think I still like the E60 better despite the price difference

All of the stupid air bags deployed, front, side (or window) and even the rear airbags deployed (no one was in the backseat, btw).

Salesman tried to pass it off by saying it must have been the new MB "PRE-SAFE" system -- you know, the one that is supposed to anticipate a possible collision before it occurs?

When we finally squeezed out of the car, salesman (sheepishly) asked if I wanted a test-drive. WTF?? If sitting in the car, not moving, causes this type of mishap -- what's going to happen when I actually engage "D"?

Suffice to say, I kindly turned him down and drove away in my BMW ...
"PRE-SAFE" yeah that's right, PREvents you to start the car which causes the accident in the first place, which makes you feel SAFE.

Haha...it's actually not that bad. We had no problems with the airbag. The inside is very luxurious. They got rid of the stick and placed it beside the steering wheel. The cool thing is if you switch off the engine it automatically shift from R to P or D to P. However, the car is due for a software upgrade on the Nav already. And voice activation is still not working until they release a new version of the software which support bluetooth cell phones. Other than that, the car feels nimble and is very quiet. All in all, a nice car.
