i have a evo ix and a rx8 and a 350z and all these cars are amazing fun factor but has very poor ease of driving. The RX8 is slightly better but still lacks true comfort. the e60 is a perfect car cause it has best of both worlds. The M5 will surely win in a straight line with both vehicles after 100MPH for sure. but both wrx sti and evo ix are highly engineered rally derived sports saloons and stating them as fake engines blah blah don really do justice. They are comepletely a different breed and speak a different language than the M5 or other e60's.
since you own both .... how does the rx-8 compare to the 530i? I test drove an rx-8 over the weekend and felt it wasn't that quick during the pull... probably i have not been driving a stick for sometime and i was sweating during the test drive. can you share your experience?

Different car types for owners with completely different demands.
That cars are lighter, turbo powered, and hungry for consumption.
If BMW supply the M5 with 50-60 lt. petrol /100 km and fit a turbocharger 6 psi on it, then the M5 will do 1245 bhp at least. Will then it be that car for a householder with his kids at the rear seats, travelling speedy safely and quietly long distances?

All that cars are very fast and powerfull, but nothing more positive than this.
All the other characteristics are NEGATIVE on those cars.

Mpravo re megale....I agree, the EVO, STi and the like are toy cars with great speed and their share of technology but at the end of the day what would I want to drive????

Oh to answer that questions........an e60

My friend Anthony owns a Mitsubishi EVO VIII. A new, stock one, I mean no modded.
He is an EVO CLUB GR member and I have been with him at their meetings. (And he has been by me in our Forum's worldwide meeting in Germany) ...thank you Anthony ...as I know that he occasionally is reading at our forum.
We shared the 3.300 km driving from Athens to Munich, Dingolfing, Prague and around, by my E60.

I use to drive his car often. I like it's 265 hp power but most of all, it's 4wd acceleration.

But it's clearly a fast toy for him to play with it a couple of years more, because his familly (wife) does not feel so comfortable into this car

His favorite car is E46 M3 which is very expencive in Greece, even a used one.

Here are some pics from EVO club GR meeting.
There was a monster (Evo VII) there, totally modified 2.2 lt engine with the biggest possible Turbocharger can fit on this car.
The owner is a Japanese racing car parts importer in Greece. Car's power is 610 Hp measured on wheel

It's funny to listen at this monster's idling sound in this video. You think that the engine continuesly turns off and then starts up again.

Fact: a stock evo or sti won't keep even up to 100km/h with the m5. Let's not get overexcited with the mambo jambo 4wd thingie. On twisties i prefere the rwd anytime so in a straight line...

It depends on which spec u're talking abt. JDM spec Evo or STi Spec-C can keep up with the M5 on standing starts up to around 90-100km/h. Euro-spec, no way.

Indeed, figures I found were 0-100 of 4.4 for M5 and 4.6 for Evo. 1/4 mile of 12.6 for M5 and 13.4 for Evo. Fast but not fast enough?

Yes, not fast enough, but quite close. Those cars should be over 110-120km/h by the time 1/4 mile mark is passed, so naturally M5 is faster. Which Evo is that? I think the top model FQ can keep up or may even beat the M5 at 1/4 mile.
JDM spec have more power & torque than EU spec (not counting those FQs). Together with the short gear ratios, they should have no problem keeping up with the M5 b4 the 1/4 mile mark. There's also the NSX-R. That thing can trouble a GT3 on track, as long as there no long straights.

The RX8 is a rotary powered engine with displacement of 1.3 liters. All of its horserpower comes at 8500 rpm so if you dont rev it you will never find the sweet spot. At low rpms it has very low power but it loves to rev and the engine is pretty sweet producing 247 bhp (Japan Spec) at 8500 rpm in the manual model that i have. US Spec gets only about 231 bhp. But it really does not matter, it handles as good as an M3 and looks pretty and fit and finish is pretty good for the kind of price you pay. Also I plan to do endless mod on the vehicle and they are done very cheap. Best part is my daughters car seat fits fine in the back and I can go cruising with my family with this first ever practical sports car. you should check www.rx8club.com for more info.

Like all cars it also has a number of drawbacks, but overall its FUN FUN FUN more so than my 350z and the beast evo IX...

I think the UK spec FQ 300 can easily match if not beat the M5 to 0-60 or 0-100km ....why bother guys...you cant compare burger with sandwhich or a burito.... they are all good or bad or ugly in our own opinions. but don compare them.... compare the E63 AMG with the M5 and i love to see the E63 TRY lol....

FQ-400 is about 3.6 to 100km/h (FQ-360 about 4.2) and 1/4 mile in 13.0s. So does FQ stand for F***** Quick?
