My only hope is that THEY push BMW a little.? I love the look of this new IS and I really love the look of those options (Nav looks fantastic, the paddles will be great, awesome sound system with surround, Mp3, WMA, etc).

Don't get me wrong, I'm a BMW guy.? I just hope the BMW engineers see some of this that Lexus delivers and it gives them a kick in the pants.

[quote name='mixterk' date='Aug 10 2005, 01:11 PM']OOPS sorry guys thought it was the GS you were on about.

I drove the GS not the IS.? Lexus is a very refined drive however, and in the UK doent yet have the cudos that it does in the US.

German cars tend to get first attention, Lexus is coming up on the flanks, some still thinlk of it as a posh Toyota..

Looks nice, but it's not much different in power or features than a G35. That car has been around for a while and hasn't had any real influence on BMW's 3 series product. It's certainly another great option for buyers in that space though.

I too have seen the early pics and it does look pretty good. At least as far as competition for the E90 anyway. Although, with only an auto box available on the top end IS350, you have to wonder how seriously they're taking the enthusiast driver. Best hope is that they spur BMW to bigger and better cars.

Looks OK, but Japanese cars make me sleepy. And I don't like to pull up to the front of a five star hotel in one. And their engines sound funny. And how many jagged little positions can you possibly have on an automatic shift gate?

If the Japanese were true car builders, they would have invented the 1970 Boss Mustang. Or the Ferrari.

I found Lexus is nut that they don't offer manual in IS350. What's the deal? The side of Lexus always looks boring. Front looks good, back looks like a Hyundai. I don't understand why BMW copy Kia and Lexus copy Hyundai They have their own head but they borrow other people's butt
I'd buy GS460 if the trunk is large enough, has side curtains, BMW handling and power, looks good in front of 5-star hotel, HUD, not Toyota butt.
LS 430 last year rated their engine 290hp, but this year after their re-evaluation to comply with SAE standard, it falls down to 275hp. What a shame. BMW always rate their HP correctly.
Also, in Motor Trend magazine, I'm wondering why G35 w/ 280hp having the same performance as E90 w/ 260hp. The weight is only ~20kg different (BMW is lighter). This means that BMW hp rating is good. Toyota, Nissan, Honda's hp is overrated. Need to subtract 20hp from their marketing number.
IS has 300+hp is correct? Should be it 280 hp in real life?

I know the GS has been discussed on here and I'm not a fan.? Looks like a Maxima.? I'm surprised about the new IS though.? It looks decent for the money.? Chock full of features.

No flames necessary since this is not the Roadfly board.? Just interesting info.

It looks nice, given its edgy styled exterior and tidy interior. Better execution than in the GS300/400 cars, which to me became less interesting as time passed. I must say Toyota is improving their cars, but I doubt their at BMW's level quite yet. It will be interesting to see the comparison tests between the 350 and 330 later in the year.

Look at all those buttons on that center console. Makes you appreciate the iDrive even more.

I imagine they will add a manual transmission within a year or so. This car is a huge improvement over the outgoing generation, which was already old when it was brought to the U.S. With 300+ hp, sleek styling, and Lexus reliability, it looks like a winner and will definitely take sales from the E90 and G35.

The map is touch screen, however.

Lexus has a MUCH better GPS system than our E60s do. Far more intuitive.
