If I sold the 545i.... what to buy?

If you lease then the car shoudl still be under warranty, BMW shoudl be giving you a loaner car, and I would simply wait it out til the lease is over, turn it in and get another one. It would be different if you had out of pocket repairs, but you shouldn't so other than it being a slight pain I don't see the big deal really. Hell that sort of thing I don't care about. It is something I am willing to trade off to drive a car with some stones as opposed to something made by a company whose only goal is the relentless pursuit of impersonating BMW. I do not own any US cars, but you're wrong on the quality/reliability issues. They are pretty much in line with everyone else at this point. The problem at this stage is that save the Corvette and to a small degree the Chrysler 300M all their designs totally suck unwiped ass.

if you want realiability buy a lexus GS350 or 460 when it comes out. purchase a set of TRD sway bars and coilovers and the handling problems will be solved. So you have realiablity, luxury, decent, and handling. Looks are subjective of course.

My opinion (as an E46 ///M3 Convertible/Cabrio owner) ... wait for the new ///M3 with the V8...
///M3 is M3, it's a legend...

Wassy get the new Lexus GS460 if you want reliability you got to go Lexus. Infiniti is not bad either but Lexus wins every year for reliability on JD powers since the brand came out in 1986.
