Toyota Motor Corp. said Wednesday it will recall about a quarter of a million cars worldwide, including 34,400 Lexus models in the U.S., due to potential cracks in the fuel pipes.
The defect serves as another speed bump for the world's second-biggest automaker, which has had to grappled with a surge in recalls and a ding in a recent quality survey as it moves swiftly towards becoming the industry's top dog.
The latest recall covers certain 2006 Lexus GS 300, IS 250 and IS 350 models in the U.S.

Well, I see that as a positive for Lexus as they have the courage to perform a recall, vs. waiting for cracks to occur and replacing the fuel pipes one by one.

Does anybody think BMW should be recalling all of those 335's (and maybe 535's) with faulty high pressure fuel pumps?

For a company to make over 10 million vehicles per year (around 8 times as many as BMW) and still score as highly as they do on reliability and owner satisfaction, tells me that the industry as a whole has a lot to learn from Toyota. Not to say I'd like to own a Toyota or a Lexus, but if BMW could match Toyota's general quality standards I'd probably still have been in my 550.

I have a 2003 4 runner and its been pretty good. But if you read the current info, Toyota has slipped alot in the past three years as they have surpassed GM as number 1. Not all good.

I totally agree. I had an LS430 before my 550i and while I wouldn't go back simply due to the handling and drivability benefits, BMW could learn from Lexus. My car was recalled to replace the transmission and fuel pump. There were no reported failures of cars in the field, Lexus engineers determined that there were POTENTIAL problems with each and they intitiated a recall. Both my transmission and fuel pump were replaced in one day and they gave me a $200.00 BP gas card for my inconvenience (plus a loaner). Their cars don't drive nearly as well as BMW but their service philosophy is second to none.

My 550 has been near peerless in reliability. Only one software update for Active Steer (first week after ED) and one recent notice for grounding wire fix.

I'm rooting for GM to keep the 1 number spot. They've introduced some really good cars of late.

Toyotas are still very reliable.

It's regarding the fuel pipe line , stress on some bending line may cause fuel leak in worst case.

The high pressure fuel pump was bad in my 535i but I believe I'm the minority. In fact, the service dept was so surprised at what they received on the diagnostic equip they called Munich for confirmation as they thought this defect had been eliminated. Anyway, my car was in the shop for only 2 days (received a loaner of course...they felt bad they only had a mini which was fine with me as I had never driven one) and all is well.
