Was driving 80 on the left lane and a 300SRT high beam me so I speeded up to 100 and he changed lane passed me.
Why didn't you move to the right and let him pass, rather than make him pass you on the right. If you then decided you needed to race him, you could take off after him. Don't give BMW drivers a bad name by not being courteous and moving to the right!

I dont think u understand the charme and strength of a BMW if u start asking questions like this.

well well said...... I agree so much......
shame that sometimes people buy BMW simply because they have the money and the dealership was around but without any knowledge and spirit for the car..... sometimes not even knowing what BMW stands for..... sad sad sad

besides it makes me agry so much when people only know to compare cars in HP numbers and straight line accel.....

Usually I do change lane let people pass but not for these people use high beam or tailgating.

I dont know where u got the specs of the 996 but your are indeed talking about a turbo. It was a 2003 Porsche 911 (996) Carrera 4S coup?. Its had an automatic gearbox if i heard right and the S indeed stands for AWD. The specs are, 320hp, 1525kg and a 0-100km/h in 5.6 seconds.

...

Compare a 530i with a 530xi or a porsche carerra with a carerra S.
Bottomline, i kicked his ass.

My M3 (i'm in Europe by the way) in standard form already has 343hp and weighs 1470kg. 0-100km/h takes about 5.2 seconds so the standard M3 would already take the porsche out.
My M3 was remapped, no speed limiter (i took it till 300km/h), hp increase was not fenomenal so about 360hp. 0-100km/h was probably around 5 seconds.
And for your information, AWD is slower than RWD if we're talking about cars with equal power. Compare a 530i with a 530xi or a porsche carerra with a carerra S.

Just for the record, the "S" does not stand for AWD. The "4" (duh) in C4S means four wheels are driven. The "S" was to denote the fact that the C4S came with the sport suspension, and used the brakes and wheels of the 996 Turbo. All 996's can turn sub-five-second 0-60 times (0-100 km/hr slightly slower, of course). Although the four wheel drive is heavier, is does give the car a launch advantage from a standing start, and C4S's typically match C2's in 0-60 mph times. The C4S, even with Tiptronic, will outrun an E36 or E46 M3, given equal drivers trying equally hard.
Remapping the ECU for more hp is mostly a pipe dream in newer BMWs; there was a little extra hp available in the E36 M3s, but 360 hp sounds more like an ECU manufacturer's claim than reality.

Usually if you are cruising in the fast lane and have not already moved over to the free lane to your right, and someone comes up behind you, the norm is for them to flash their brights quickly to have the car in front move over. Their intent usually isn't to start a race. When they had to pass you on the right because you wouldn't move over, they were probably "pissed" at you and passed faster than they normally would.

If your attitude is not to move over, please do yourself a favor and never drive in Germany. I am not trying to start any arguement. I just wanted to point out that if we drive the "Ultimate Driving Maching" we ought to work at becoming good drivers that understand the rules of the road, and don't just cruise in the fast lane just because we have a bimmer.

Well said.

When I did ED last year, it was a revelation how the Europeans drove so fast yet courteously at the same time. If only American drivers had that level of maturity...

This snippet was printed by Car and Driver at the end of their recent comparison test between the E60 M5, CLS 55, and the STS-V.

And for About 40 Grand Less . . .

You know what they say: 10 grand here, 10 grand there, pretty soon you?re talking real money. So when a Dodge Charger SRT8?base price, $38,095?showed up at Hogback Road just as the Bahn Burners were heading to Grattan, we thought it would be interesting to see how this relatively low-priced missile would measure up against the high-priced execu-rockets.

The answer: very well, indeed. Better, in fact, than we expected.

Propelled by a DaimlerChrysler 6.1-liter Hemi V-8?425 horsepower, 420 pound-feet of torque?the 4274-pound Charger rumbled to 60 mph in 4.8 seconds, covered the quarter-mile in 13.2 seconds (a tie with the Cadillac) at 109 mph, pulled 0.90 g on the skidpad, and stopped from 70 mph in 168 feet.

The basic test numbers were impressive, but the Charger?s agility on the Grattan road circuit was truly revelatory. Even though we experienced brake-fade problems during the full-tilt process, we were able to herd the bad-boy Dodge around the track in 1:32.65, just 0.1 second behind the CLS55 Benz and almost a full second quicker than the Cadillac STS-V.

That?s a tribute to excellent work by DC?s Street and Racing Technology skunkworks guys, as well as a testimonial to a superb job by the chassis engineers.

So the Charger isn?t in the luxury ballpark with these other cars, but the Hemi does make it go, and it sounds good while doing so. And what could you buy with all that leftover dough? How about a Honda S2000? Or, thinking of maybe improving your home life, a new kitchen?

Oh, and to the detractors talking about handling - the 545i/550i is generally tested at .89g or lower in tests I've seen.

I've said it before - if speed is your ultimate goal, the E60 isn't the best place to put your money. Threads like this one are amusing, but ultimately force comparisons that don't need to be made.

My mom was in the car with me and she yelled at me not to do crazy things. So I had to slow down.

I am just wondering have any one raced with 300SRT? Probably 545i won't win, how about 550i?
Does BMW really need to use M5 ($80K+ car) to beat Chrysler's $50K car?

You should have hit your mom and then smoke that damn chrysler.

Does BMW need an M5 to beat a chrysler? Does anyone need to answer that sentence?
