The Crysler may walk the 550i, but that stupid thing looks hideous though. The front end is simply too bold for my taste.

It seems like the 300 SRT8 would walk on a 550i.

Maybe the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 is about even with the 550i...???
The Jeep's 0-60 is also below 5 sec, but it is even less aerodynamic and perhaps even heavier than the 300 SRT8, so the 550i might catch up at high speed.

Whatever the case, BMWs aren't designed for maximum straight line speed. The American musclecars sacrifice everything for power. BMWs are almost as fast on the highway, AND can do everything else well too.

But my heart isn't strong enough to drive that speed in local freeway even my mom say "Go get him".
Sorry... I let you guys down tonight.
dont feel bad.......there is nothing to prove..your life and your car are more important than proving some one you have a speedy car.

I'll have to admit the car turns heads but it's such a blatant imitation of a Bentley that deters me from ever liking this car. That and the fact that everyone I've seen driving one seems to think he's the latest hip hop pimp.

Enginewise, I do respect the power and affordability.

No problem, totally understand.
Once when i was driving my M3 i ran into a porsche 996 who wanted to race me. Unfortunately my mom was sitting next to me holding a box with a pie in it with lots of whipped cream cause we just came from the bakkery. But there was no way that i would let that arrogant punk with his sunglasses and his blond chick (also with sunglasses) get away without proving that he was as tough as he looked like.
U probably can guess what happened next. We took a sprint from 0 to 200 km/hour, my mom was screaming like a pig, i humiliated the guy in front of his girlfriend and we had to eat the pie from the box cause it looked like shit afterwards.
But anyways, i felt great!!

Georgos, what year was the 996 that you raced and were you driving a completely stock M3? I'm having a hard time believing you on this one. If you raced a 1998 Porsche 996 I might be able to see it, seeing as how they have similar performance specs. But anything after 1999, and especially after 2000 I just can't believe.

The 2000 Porsche 996 has 420hp, weighs 20lbs less (compared to the M3 Coupe), and is AWD. I'm not calling you a liar, but can you tell me how you beat this car if you only had 333hp, you're heavier, and you're RWD.

I just want to clarify what you were racing. If you were racing a 1998 996 that's a five year difference in technology and with these kinds of cars that's just not a fair comparison. If you really wanted to compare the 996 to the M3 I would say you have to comapre the same year, and if you do that, the 2003 996 is even more amazing with 456hp, 450 lbs less weight, and still AWD.

I don't think he meant the 996 Turbo, just a 996 Carrera.

SRT for Chrysler is what AMG is for Mercedes. Enough said. No 5 series can beat it unless it's an e60 M5.

That's all theorectical and in a straightline drag race. Now on public roads, V8 e60s shouldn't have a problem. It's all about the driver and who chooses the open path out of the maze of slow moving cars.

With your mom in the car, you should've completely ignore the 300 srt (I know, tempting, right?) Give your old lady some respect and not try to shorten her heart's life.

Even if he meant just the 996 Carrera, I'm still having a hard time believing that he humiliated the guy. Although it does largely depend on which 996 the guy was in and what year.

So in order to avoid making myself look like an idiot or causing some kind of quarrel, I'd just like to know which porsche it was.

By the way the reason I'm still skeptical about the 996 Carrera loosing is because even the 996 C2 has a better power to weight ratio and a lower drag coefficient than the M3. I just don't see the M3 beating it unless the driver of the 996 was a total tool and didn't know how to drive, or he really wasn't racing to begin with.

I dont know where u got the specs of the 996 but your are indeed talking about a turbo. It was a 2003 Porsche 911 (996) Carrera 4S coup?. Its had an automatic gearbox if i heard right and the S indeed stands for AWD. The specs are, 320hp, 1525kg and a 0-100km/h in 5.6 seconds.
My M3 (i'm in Europe by the way) in standard form already has 343hp and weighs 1470kg. 0-100km/h takes about 5.2 seconds so the standard M3 would already take the porsche out.
My M3 was remapped, no speed limiter (i took it till 300km/h), hp increase was not fenomenal so about 360hp. 0-100km/h was probably around 5 seconds.
And for your information, AWD is slower than RWD if we're talking about cars with equal power. Compare a 530i with a 530xi or a porsche carerra with a carerra S.
Bottomline, i kicked his ass.
