Hong Kong might be a relatively small competitor but it is only a city in China and that is the new emerging market, which is why BMW and other competitors should pay attention if they havent already who can say no to a consumer market of 1.3billion thats more then 4 times the US population.

I think the E Class is no longer a competitor and in fact its now the CLS. Before I thought the previous W210 MB was a solid competitor but that was only because it was going against e39. The rest of the "competiton" just tries to come close to the E60 in terms of technology and styling. The only thing I can think of that competes is the CLS. New E Class feels and looks tiny.
I love the GS in many ways but it doesnt have driving dynamics like the E60 does.

My Ride: 2004 545i / Orient Blue (I think) / Tan int / 116's Wheels / ... my favorite option, the HEATED steering wheel!
Previous cars retired:
2006 Corvette Z51, 2002 Corvette Coupe, 2002 Mustang, 1997 Maxima, 1994 Camry, 1990 Supra
None, and I mean none compare to this 545i. The 06 Corvette was faster, but not by much...

I would go in this order:
1: E55 / 60
2: S6
3: Infinity M45
4: Caddy STS-V
5: A6
6: Lexus GS 40
1: E55 / 60
2: S6
3: Infinity M45
4: Caddy STS-V
5: A6
6: Lexus GS 40

It's a no brainer - the Mercedes E class follwed by the Audi A6, and then the Jaguar S or maybe the Lexus - in Europe anyway.
Haven't a clue for the States. A Prius maybe ?

I am not sure that anyone has mentioned the M3 as a possible M5 competitior, but I'd seriously consider an M3 versus an M5. Unfortunately, the M3 is tad short on relative torque too.
