Saw an A8 all cleaned up at the local Porsche/Audi dealer last week. Jaw droppingly beautiful; appearance wise it really puts a BMW 7 to shame.
On the other hand, I'd go 550i sport over the S6. Better driving dynamics, and I prefer the RWD. The A6 platform does have a much roomier back seat, though, if that's an important factor for you.

My Ride: E60 M5, F85 X5M
S6 over 550
The RS6 is also coming, with about 535 or 545 hp. I might even pick that over the M5.... I like the Audi trapezoidal grills and in my opinion, I like Audi's interior over BMW.

Well in some ways I miss my E60 but the S6 is an incredible car. I woudn't compare it to an M5, I think the RS6 is priced for that, but against a 550 the S6 is very tough to beat. The interior is very nice and although I loved the i-Drive when I had my 545i, the MMI interface is really amazing...very quick less than 3 second to boot on start up and everything works!
As far as drive the E60 felt "sharper" but the V10 and Quattro are a great deal of fun, the engine sound is almost as good as the AMG. Dollar for dollar the Audi is very comparable and if I had to do it again the S6 would take my vote. But I do miss not owning a BMW some mornings.

the S6 interior looks cheap imo.....however the power is plenty...
for m5 vs s8...i love the s8 however makes me feel older... its more practical, how ever the M5 is much more fun...

S6 vs 550i... going straight for power the s6 wins easily.. i realy hate its interior, the 550 is beter...
sorry guys i think im gona betray you... the S6 is such a big jump in power i would chose it...its just in different class to the 550i...

The S6 is being compared against the M5 (and E63) in the latest editions of C&D, Motor Trend and Automobile. It's placing 1st or 2nd, and reviewers suggest that is matching or outhandling even the M5 in these tests. That said, the real M5 and E63 competitor is the forthcoming RS6, not the S6 which is perhaps closer to the 550 than the M5. So, if the question is whether the S6 is a better car than the 550, then the answer is yes. The fact that it is being compared against, and even beating, the M5 in these tests is testament to that.
