Dear e60 forum:
Does anybody here at the forum know why does my Motorola Verizon RAZR cell phone when using the BMW Bluetooth connection sounds crystal clear and great on my end, but not on the other parties end? They complain of hearing themselves talk, an annoying echoing effect!
Does anybody else here experience this with their BMW Bluetooth connection, and if so what did you do to correct and solve this annoying problem?
Thanks in advance.
Sincerely,
R. Eddie Presley

Eddie,

There is a new (updated) microphone part that has helped some of us (but not all of us) with these types of problems.
Good luck!

I've also found that by reducing the volume this takes away a lot of the echo...

That can help too. Reducing the volume was what many of us did until the microphone fix came out.
I think the car uses some sort of dynamic noise cancelling system that attempts to compensate for road noise and call quality. At the beginning of a call, the car works on finding the best settings and once it finds them, the call might sound better. The problem I find is that once in a while the caller will raise their voice for a second or do something that causes the current noise cancelling settings to become less than optimal. At that point, the caller hears themself (echo) and the car tries to recompensate to find the new settings but at that point, the caller has already reduced their voice and the car has to chase the settings again.
All of the above is only a theory of mine -- I'm not completely sure that this is what happens but based on my experiences using the CPT9000 and two different BT phones with my car, I've found these symptoms to be sort of a common thread...

Unfortunately, I think the sound quality of the E60's bluetooth is very poor! I have tried everything and the quality is still worse than any speakerphone. Certainly much worse than using a plugin hands free device.
Very disappointing.

camquest, what exactly did you try when you say you tried "everything"? I used to get complaints with my CPT9000 but the dealer seems to have made it much better and whatever they did still works with BT now.

The officiam BMW resposnse is that if it is not on the list of supported phones and the supported provider, then you may have less then great results. For example, my phone the Treo 650 is only officially supported via T Mobile, so when I complained of the problem of other people hearing me, BMWNA advised my dealer (after my dealer had to open an assistance request from NA) that there is no resolution.
