Although SIM cards usually go into the phone -- especially for cars in North America -- it's possible that in some counties, the eject box has a SIM card slot as well.
Since Vado E60 didn't specify where he is, it's possible that he has a car that requires a SIM card in the eject box.
Here's a .pdf that shows where the slot is:

Did that solve your problem? Was there a SIM slot on the eject box?
When oh when are we going to get SAP?

What would SAP give us that we don't already have with our BT GSM phones?
Your GSM phone could basically "sleep", preserving its battery, etc...
The car's internal mobile handset (in the US it's a Verizon phone, so it wouldn't do us much good) would take over, using all the wired antenna, power, etc...
So, all the click-ins for power and antenna would be obsoleted. People wouldn't have to worry about their battery draining on the mobile while they are driving in the car, etc...
Those outside the US would benefit most, but perhaps the F10 could make use of this - even if the US cars are still on VerizonWireless. I know Verizon uses a Chinese handset that has a SIM (it's part of the way the Chinese market implements CDMA) - so a SIM isn't out of the question...

I see. So the only real benefit is preserving battery life increasing signal reception. To me, that downside would be the lack of contact information being uploaded from the phone (SIM contact transfer wouldn't be enough since I'm used to all contacts from my Blackberry being transferred.)
It would also make it difficult to switch the call to the phone if you reach your destination before you're finished.
Unless I'm missing something else, I don't think the tradeoffs outweigh the benefits in this case...

It wouldn't be the only profile at work. Just as the phonebook access profile is separate from the handsfree profile, etc... They all do their individual jobs to provide the functionality we desire. I haven't read the spec for SAP, so I can't say how it handles handoffs, but I'm sure that has been considered. FYI, starting in 2006 the VW Passat has this profile - it would be interesting to hear how owners like it.
The whole carrier/hardware incompatibility issue got me thinking though. In the future (3-5 years) two things are going to happen.
1. Wireless carriers in the US will complete their conversion to packetized voice (using SIP). This has happened in other countries already and has started here.
2. Cars will be equipped with high-speed data connections, not just chipsets for voice calling.
Once this happens, the current MO will be a dead paradigm. We'll leverage SIP-presence to move our location between hardware in our office, our home, our person, and our car... regardless of the networks we find ourselves connected to or traversing to do so.
