First off, I'm in the US. Maybe BT is working in Europe??

I am so confused with what I'm reading about Bluetooth.

In one post, I have read that it's not available until later in 2004.

In other posts, I've read that it works with 3 phones. 3 guys from England are really lauding the whole thing.

I thought my salesman really touted it too, but I have also read that some people say it's an expensive option??? Is it standard in the US? Standard in the US with certain packages?

Some other option I wasn't asked about?

Does it work now? Is it even working in the US?? Wow, I'm so lost with this one.

I have a 525i on order (due for week 8 production) and I'm not sure how it's going to work. I did order the Sports pkg, Premium pkg, and the Nav.

Bluetooth is available in Europe but not US market yet. It is due to the incompatibility between BMW Assist module and Bluetooth. BMW is working on making them work together.

Officially, BMW will not committ to making Bluetooth retrofit on current production 5 series cars. Remember the Mercedes Benz Navigation DVD fiasco? Lots of buy backs. However, I think BMW will make Bluetooth work on E60 by firmware or ICU upgrades.

Can I throw something else into the mix? You are right in thinking Bluetooth is available in the UK, and has been since launch. However, we've had 2 grades of Navigation on the price list - Business (turn lists and voice only, 6.5" screen) and Professional (full mapping and TMC capability, 8.8" screen). Professional Nav has only just now crept into the build schedule and you cannot order Bluetooth with it if you go for this option - more incompatibilities it seems.

OK, but Bluetooth is mostly (if not completely) about phones, right?

The voice activation with the full version Nav still works, right?

Yes, it's about phones, I didn't say otherwise.

As for voice activation, voice activation of what, because as I said you cannot order Bluetooth with the full Nav system in the UK

It was only a question because I don't understand. I wasn't accusing you of providing misinformation.

In the U.S., I have ordered the NAV and I was told it will have full voice capabilities (control Nav, phone, audio unit, etc).

Although Navigation / voice are available after Jan 04 built. I believe the voice command feature is not ready for US (English). Another software update will enable the voice command later.

Sorry bud, didn't mean my reply to sound short. Yes as I understand it, the extended voice control covers many aspects including the phone (wether it is the Bluetooth or the BMW supplied phone).

Right. But the problem is that this doesn't have anything to do with Bluetooth...
