ULF vs. ULF2 ?

Hi all.
What is the difference between an ULF and ULF2?
As I understand, the ULF2 is a combined bluetooth/USB control unit, and the ULF only bluetooth. Both has the 54-pin connector and MOST+antenna.
Can ULF2 be used on a 2004 E60 without USB?
I am currently retrofitting BT to my 525d, but is a bit confused when it comes to the ULF.
