Well, I finally got my 07/2004 production 545i software upgraded and bluetooth is enabled, so I can hear my callers in wonderful L7 glory.

I have a PPC-6700 (Sprint) and would like to be able to talk to my phone through the car microphone while NOT on a phone call. I am able to do that through my bluetooth earpiece by clicking a button on it. This simply triggers the phone to use the earpiece for it's sound input and output until I click it again - pretty normal for bluetooth headsets.

The reason is 2-fold - to be able to save voice memos on my phone and to be able to use voice commands on the phone. I am able to do both through my earpiece.

Anyone know a way to trigger the phone to use the car for sound input and output just like a bluetooth earpiece?

I think you will not be able to do this. The difference is headset vz handsfree.

Doesn't it simply work like a bluetooth earpiece, but using the car speakers for sound output instead of the earpiece and headliner microphone for sound input instead of the the earpiece microphone? Otherwise, I would think it would have the same features as my earpiece.

There must be a way - anyone?

You say you are clicking a button, and I don't think BMW has given any button in the car such a fucntion, so it's not possible.

Of course, the button on any bluetooth earpiece is simply sending a signal to the phone to switch audio input/output to the earpiece or back to the phone. You could do this same thing in the software, so thought maybe there was a way through the i-drive and interface to accomplish this.

You can do this with pretty much any bluetooth earpiece and bluetooth phone, so I'm still not understanding why the same thing can't be done in the car.

Anyone?

Oh, I am sure it COULD be done. But I don't think BMW HAS actually done it.
So, when BMW didn't assigned the function to a button or idrive, it's not possible, unless they will somewhen implement the function.

Thanks Iceman - unfortunately, I agree. I'll continue to look for a way and will post if I find it, but chances are sounding not so good.
