Don't blame the car. Its your phone and its firmware version. Many phones have restricted BT capability. You need it fairly unrestricted and OBEX allowed for the phonebook to transfer.

Yes and No.

When someone calls there number is shown on the screen. There name is not listed because the phone book is not transferred to IDrive from the cell phone.

Yes you can Accept or Reject calls.

BTW, If you do not apply this patch the Phone and IDrive will loose connectivity. The only way it works if when you make or receive calls you must hit the send/end button on your phone.

So would you suggest updating to the new bluetooth update? I currently have the treo working on my 05 530i and it shows the last number who called in the caller id, the only time the number changes is when I get a new call (even out of the car) and then that number shows....and no phonebook either. Basically the car doesnt notice the phone but the phone will dial through the car stereo right??? or do you actually have more features? Did the voice commands work before the update? what I am trying to avoid is ruining a situtation that could be improved but not lost...

Thanks,

I went to the dealer for the BlueTooth upgrade (which I had to pay for). I got my care back after 3 days and the phone only worked when I hit the send/end button, it was like the car was sleeping and when you hit those buttons the car woke up. The same night my friend called to tell me that a BlueTooth update is available for the Treo 650. Once I updated my phone, it works great with the car: Voice dialing, making and receiving calls. The only issue is the phone book. Which also doesn't give you the ability to add any phone #'s the onboard phone book. So when someone calls, it takes me a few mins to recognize the number before I answer it. I love it now I don?t have to take the phone out of my pocket when I get into the car to use it!

Great Great!!!! I think I will do the update... I dont know if voice dialing has to be installed but I have the buttons in the car. You know how it is, the cars manual has everything there (options) but they have *'s next to them telling you that they are optional. Hopefully I have the voice dialing already there.... My dealership isnt too savy on all this technical stuff that they sell.... ironic huh?

Just for shits-and-giggles, does anyone know if this update can be uninstalled? or can I create an image of my treo to restore later if an update like this or maybe one in the future causes more problems then good?

BTW I asked the question about the bluetoth update on treocentral's site and someone with an Audi said exactly the same thing you said. Basically that before the update, the car didnt recognize the phone (like the BMW) and after all the options you said had carried through. I guess Audi's and BMW's Bluetooth programming are almost the same.... Good to know when they release an update that specifically says for Audi like this one did...

Thanks and if anyknow knows how to backup the treo to revert to before an update like this please let me know, I will be refreshing this page until I get home to install that update.

As for backup up your Treo, I know it is possible because a co-worker of mine is always installing things on his Treo and sometimes need to reinstall the OS and restore his info.

So yes it is possible, I bet you can get the details from treocentral's site.

Bradone1 - U DA MAN!

I've had my new 530i for about a week and no one (dealership, chat boards) has been able to help me connect my Treo 650 via Bluetooth. I followed your advice and links and it worked like a charm!

All of your points were valid:

Phonebook does not upload to car
Have to use the phone to dial, answer and send calls (vs. using car controls)
Phone numbers/names don't correlate

But the sound works very well. Maybe one day we'll find an upgrade or workaround for the phonebook upload.

I'm new to the BMW family and look forward to sharing/learning more.

YES, High-Tech Texan

Did you apply the update????? I am really eager to know... I am so scared of putting the damn thing on and loosing it for good! I use it so much. I would say more then 30 calls a day through the bluetooth system and if I loose it and cant go back I think I'll die..
