When I had 16.2 installed I noted that a small icon, obviously denoting a cell phone, was displayed on the lower center part of my NAV screen.

It was there all the time that the phone was in its cradle.

Two days ago, the icon disappeared but the phone is still working normally.

Three guys at my dealer gave me three different dumb explanations.

Does anyone know what this icon is all about?

Thanks.

My phone icon isn't always there. Not sure what its purpose is.

This icon (if this is what you guys have been talking about) is real inconsistent!

It appears only when I receive a call, albeit not always. I am also wondering under what circumstances would it come up?

Does it show up when you have weak signal strength? I see what looks like a signal indicator, but I'm not sure...maybe there just to let you know that the signal is weak in the current area you're in.

BigartK, what reasons did they give you at the dealer?

So far none of you guys seems to have a definitive answer.

At my dealer here are the answers I got:

SA #1: It shows that the phone is connected.

SA #2: I means you have a message. ( This is definitely NOT true )

SA #3: It's not something you really need so if it's not always on, don't be concerned.

HELP!!!!

NO MORE SPECULATION - THIS IS WHAT IT IS FOR

It is your missed call indicator and it only applies to calls missed while your phone is paired with the car. EG. If you receive a call while you are speaking on the phone, you will see that icon show up. Go to missed calls and it will disappear.

Missed calls are logged by date (english syle, M/D/Y) and by recipient,.. except the the calls missed in the current day which show time.

PS. Always come to E60.NET before hearing the SA. Their answers are just for amusement.

Dynamite Hormazd !! Thanks for the solution.
You are right. Why waste time asking BMW when the vast resources of this board are available.

The dealers job is just to move BMW off the lot and keep their profit margin as high as possible.

I have a "network" of 4 dealers I work with for service. I bounce around between them until I get my issue resolved. I am very unimpressed by the level of training some of the mechanics have on the newer models. And my service representatives? They all have the basic knowlegde of "temp" workers.

In contrast, when my MB goes in for service, its fixed without delay or confusion. I know many are certified MB mechanics. Does BMW dealers require the same? Not sure, this is my first BMW.

Lesson learned: Get all your facts and part numbers here in the forum, and go out an educate your service reps and mechanics.

Good catch HORMAZD!
