I've installed a gw500 and bta1500. Everything works and I only have to route the mic wires and fix everything into the glovebox permanently.

I don't have BMW assist or nav on my e60, so as far as I can tell the oem microphone is totally useless. I'm considering unwiring it from the car harness and using it for the bta1500 instead.

I don't know much about mic's but I figure it's at least better quality than the dension mic, plus it will maintain the complete factory look (no bta mic poking out anywhere).

Any thoughts?

You should be able to reuse the OEM mic. But even the dension mic doesn't need to poke out if you install it above the grill for the mic.

I considered installing the dension mic like that. Do you think it's worth the effort to use the BMW mic instead? It's only a little soldering.

edit: screw it I'll just try it and post the results, it's hardly more effort than discussing it at length ;p

I installed the dension mic over the grill and applied the volume patch, entered ***12 to set the mic volume and everything is great.

How did you activate the Dension Bluetooth on the iDrive?

Do you have pictures or instructions on how to install the wiring?
Thanks

Buy this

I have it and it works just fine. Also fits 100% OEM location.

Is there no way to use the OEM microphone with the BTA1500?

Not without cutting the cables which I wouldn't do.
Just get the above, it's cheap, no hacking the OEM wiring and fits in the OEM place.
