Does anyone have the BMW parts number for the V551 cradle (in the US)?
If I have the parts number, my dealer might actually find and order it...

Does this "unit" just plug into the universal adapter in the car's armrest or does the service department need put in time to install the adapter (84 21 0 307 726) so that it links up with the car for power and external antenna?

I have the same phone and got the same issue/question. Haven't had a whole lot of luck with the dealer but finally tracked down someone in the service dept who apparently knows what to do, if I get any news I'll post it. They did tell me that one customer had purchased the V551/V600 cradle etc but was going to install it themselves and report back to the parts dept with their experience, hopefully they will call soon and I'll post here when they do.

I bought the Nokia 6310 snap in and had a challenge fitting it. When you know how it works its simple. I was forced to change phone and now have a V620. Bought the V600 snap-in and installed it in about 5 seconds. Its push in simple.

where did you get the 6310 cradle from? I'd be very interested in buying one myself.

On page 14 of the German pricelist BMW lists the cradle.
So your dealer should be able to order it.

Does anyone know whether the snap-cradle simply snaps in to the US model?

It does not simply snap in--see this thread:
http://forums.e60.net/index.php?showtopic=1438

I have a non-BMW Motorola V60i (TDMA for AT&T) and was wondering if it will work with the eject box in the link above (the one for the BMW CPT 9000). The dealer said he didn't think it would work, but wasn't positive. I realize I could get a Bluetooth phone, but would prefer to keep the V60i and have it in the arm rest cradle.

That thread is for the cradle that hold the CPT 9000 which clearly requires wiring. This thread relates to the snap-in adapter for Motorola Bluetooth phones. I am asking about the Bluetooth adapter. Some posts indicate that it is a simple snap in without wiring, but it seems that US cars aren't set up to take it.

YES, it seems that v60i's will work - for me it did.

since my antenna clamp on the circuit board (inside the phone) broke - i went to BMW & asked for a exchange - they said it would be 3-4 days before they had another one. I went to my cingular dealer (old AT&T) & they had a old used V60I Color - which i gladly took as a temp until BMW had a replacement. and to my surprise it FULLY worked with the iDrive. it pulled up the phone book, MUCH MUCH faster than the V60iT (CTP9000) - i was able to accept calls, place calls from the phone book, and manual dial through the idrive. - i was surprised as i always heard that it would not fully work.
