I was wondering if anyone can tell me if I should have the signal level displayed on the iDrive screen? I seem to remember seeing a screenshot somewhere with the signal level 'bars' displayed next to the little antenna symbol.
At first I thought that maybe it just didn't show when using the SE K750i but I have now tried it with a number of different phones and the signal level never shows.

I had it all the time with my V600, but my Mot Q doesn't have it. It's actually something I find quite annoying, but at least the rest works.

It all depends on your phone. The W810i shows it all the time but my P910i shows up only briefly on connection and then disappears.
I ask as I've tried a friend's W810i which also didn't show the signal meter.

Can you tell me which firmware version your W810i had please? > * << * < * (<=joystick/D-pad left, >=right) should bring you to a menu that shows you the software version.
