My Ride: 525i, Orient Blue, bought used with 22000 miles. Grey lether, sport package, BMW Assist, Cold Weather package. Xenons. NOT premium for some reason, I do like the metal finish vs. the wood, but do miss the garage opener.

Has anyone else been told that the new software will make BT work on a pre-March 04 build car? My car was built in Nov 2003. Dealer told me that the new software would make BT work. Taking it in on Friday to get it done. I specifically said, no go back and check, mine is an 11/03 build car. He checked and called back and said "yes". Anyone else found this? <_<

Well if you read the other thread on BT Service Bulletin http://forums.e60.net/index.php?showtopic=9030

you will see this on the buletin

"Vehicles prior to 3/04 would need to have the TCU replaced with the 2005 MY TCU at the customer's expense and the vehicle updated to CIP 13.2 or higher"

wrlominick - please post results from your visit on Friday whether positive or negative. Maybe they will de-activate the BMW assist which might allow them to enable Bluetooth. My understanding is that BT did work on European models pre-March-03 so the TCU should be compatible with BT - I believe there is a conflict with the assist.

I think this is correct. Long ago I asked about BT and was told they could add it but they would have to disable BMW Assist. No that my free year has passed and I have not renewed BMW Assist, maybe I should see if they can activate BT for me.

I think there might be (have been??) some kind of contractual impedement to deactivating but hopefully this will work.

BTW, correction to my initial post - I meant BT works on European models pre-March-04 of course... there weren't many pre-March-03s.

I have BT and BMW Assist working at the same time (although I have discontinued the Assist after my first free year). I say "working" in that both will take voice commands.

Sans, you did not need a new TCU? How did you get that done? Can you give me any info to share with my dealer in case there are problems? I will let everyone know what happens on Friday.

Looks like you may have the info now...but no, absent a new TCU, software alone won't make it work for your build date.
