The "save name" command was discontinued (at least on nav cars) with the newer software versions. Now, the way it works is that the voice dialing will actually "read" whatever entry is in the A-Z list.

For example, if you have an entry for "John Smith" stored in the phone and you can see it in iDrive, then all you have to do is give the "Dial Name" command and say "John Smith" when prompted. The car uses a text-to-speech program so you never have to "teach" it any of the names or do any type of "save name" command anymore.

Pretty cool, eh?
================================================== ================== Hi Rudy!

Eddie, do you have navigation? I'm not sure how things work on non-nav cars...

No, not yet, but the BMW OEM Navigation unit is the next thing I want to purchase...do you have any advice or suggestions you can give me before I take the plunge and purchase it next month for my 2004 530i? (I just want to get this BMW Idrive phone voice quality straighten out first, might be a $$$ leveraging tool in my navigation when I purchase also from them, but I doubt it, you know BMW about giving any kind of $$$ discounts on their products!!! which are few and far between...LOL)

Thanks for your time Rudy! How have you been doing?

Your GA friend,
Eddie

I was wondering about that. I have to "teach" or save name on mine. The bluetooth worked out of the box. It read the phone book on my LG Verizon Vx8300 with no problem. When I ask the Voice Command "A-Z" it just says "...get real stupid"

So now I am thinking I don't have the most updated software. uhmmm. I kinda like the "teach" feature though, but I have a lot of names in my phone book and would loathe having to teach it all over. Any clue?
