you are correct as usual Rhudy, the btum will allow you to connect to most any bluetooth phone though some functionality may not work such a book sync and the verbal commands thru the steering wheel button. I purchased the cradle and btum from a bmw parts online and got it all for 500.00. The dealer tried for weeks to get it to work and when they could not and opened up a PUMA case the factory had them replace my TCU under warrenty and whola i got it intergrated and i have a September built 03 brought it in October of 03.

I had exactly the same experience. Ended up with new MY05 TCU and a refund for the BTUM and cradle. Those with E60's with production dates from 7/03 thru 2/06 should check out SIB842306. You could end up with a new TCU.
