I recently had the my May 2004 software upgraded to add auxiliary input and bluetooth support; however, my new Motorola SLVR L7 from Cingular never syncs its address book. When I look at the BMW web site, it indicates compatibility with SLVR L7 for vehicles produced since 9/05. Is this a case of hardware incompatibility or should the software upgrade have brought my system to the level to support this phone?

FYI, this coming weekend, I plan to remove the old CPT-9000 cradle and restore the original cradle to the car (so I suppose this could still be confusing the computer at this point). Any wisdom on this issue would be appreciated.

Is May 2004 your build date or some software date? (It's not clear in your post.)

If you put the CPT9000 phone back in the cradle, does it sync up? If so, then the dealer didn't program the car properly. (You can't have the CPT9000 and Bluetooth together.)

Do you have a Bluetooth menu in the communication settings menu (not the communications menu)?

I don't know how experienced your dealer is but there are definitely some tricks that need to be performed to get things working just right -- especially on older cars, I think.

I have the SLVR from Cingular and everything works. I have a 545 with a 6/05 build date. It worked with the software the car came with and the recent upgrade I just received last month. In other words it should work. Have your SA try to pair it.
