I called Cingular to inquire about the Motorola RAZR which seems to be the consensus favorite for use with BMW Bluetooth. They want $500 with a new 2 year contract. They suggested the Motorola V551 for $150. They claim it will work just as well, although I could tell that the Cingular rep had little or no knowledge of problems with the BMW Bluetooth.

The Motorola V551 is listed on the X5world site as fully compatible. If you have experience with this phone, please let me know how well it works with your BMW and whether you have had any problems.

I heard only good things.

I ordered mine through wirefly.com.
It was free there with a 1 year Cingular contract (EVERYBODY: NEVER, NEVER USE THEIR SERVICE - THEY SCREWED ME OVER BY DISCONNECTING MY CURRENT SERVICE WITHOUT PERMISSION AND 4 DAYS EARLIER; they were supposed to port the number on Saturday and Verizon disconnected me on their request yesterday while I am on travel in Utah!!! ) .

The phone (and me) should get to my home tomorrow and I will try. I will let everybody know.

Btw., I have a Cadillac with the Northstar engine as rental car. This thing is a V8, but it is incredibly lame. Help, where is my 545i?????

Jochen

Works fine. You might try a search as this was discussed in the last 2 days...

I tried for few hours a Moto V550 (very close to 551 i think), and it paired and worked very well with E60, but I like much and much more Moto Rzr V3 then I got V3: fantastic

Not easy to answer yes or not, easier to say :it depends....on what do you expect from a GSM phone.

In my case, I love high-tech gadgets and occasionally I buy and sell those stuff, the alternatives were:

A motorola V3 best price in a shop in Italy : 699 euro = 923 USD (max discount 8% more)
A motorola V3 new from e-bay (UK) : 360 euro = 475 USD

I didn't resist to get V3 360 euro

Now I am bidding for a Siemens S65, well proved compatibility with E60 and there is a cradle available.

You might want to look into the Motorola v620 - recent phone which has a cradle for it as well

I like RAZR very much but if BMW does not provide cradle for it I wud also consider
smth else.
BTW any idea if it is possible to use available cradles with different models?
For example I llike Nokia 8910i which is fully compatible with BMW BT but the cradle is onle available for Nokia 6310i.
Provided the phones have same plug connections wud it be possible to fit 8910i into 6310i cradle? Unfly I'm not familiar with how the system works....
Both phones have approx same sizes ( 6310 is just 1mm wider and thicker) except that
6310 is 26 mm (aprox 1 inch) longer.
