My Ride: 04 545i HUD, comfort seats, PDC, moon roof, Logic 7, Nav, Steptronic, K7 and diffusers, Aux-in for iPod!
Default

Hello everyone,

My 05/2004 e60 has not yet found a dealer who could be convinced to do the bluetooth upgrade. So, I was thinking of using the k750i cradle in place of the existing cpt9000 cradle.

Could I use this cradle to charge, use the external antenna, and integrate into iDrive? From the other posts, it seems only possible to use it to charge and access the antenna, but iDrive integration needed to go through Bluetooth still.

One day, I will find a willing dealer to do the bluetooth upgrade.

Thanks for your help in advance!!

First, I'm surprised that you can't get a dealer to do the upgrade since the TSB from 3/2005 clearly states that BT functionality can be added to cars built between 3/2004 and 8/2004 via a software update.

Unfortunately, the TSB also states that docking cradles can not be added to these vehicles. I talked to a service tech at my dealership a while ago and he told me the same thing -- not sure if he was simply repeating the TSB information of if he had first-hand experience with the wiring incompatibilities...

Per the SIB you referenced, see segment below, 5/2004 E60 should be OK with the cradle. Vehicles earlier than 3/04 that are upgraded with MY05 TCU can not use the cradle. Since MY05 TCU has integrated bluetooth, don't really need a cradle anyway. Dealer had my 12/03 e60 for more than a month. Retrofit for cradle was successful, but could not get the car to accept the required CIP upgrade. Ended up giving me a new TCU. Seems like early TCU's are sometimes damaged by attempting to upgrade. May be reason for reluctance on part of dealer to do bluetooth upgrade.

"Vehicles prior to 3/04 would need to have the TCU replaced
with the 2005 MY TCU at the customer's expense and the vehicle updated to CIP 13.2 or higher. Phone
docking cradles may not be added to these vehicles because of wiring incompatibility."

I will try again, now that I know the cradle will only charge and not integrate to iDrive. Thanks guys!!
