Hi,
Having read all threads about deleting sms and freeing up memory I was going nuts since my phone didn't work anyway. I chose to go to the local cellphone dealer who upgraded the phone with the latest software. I went out to my car with a doubt that it would work, but hey it did.
I have about 200 numbers split on about 150 people in my phone memory. My SIM only holds about 10 preloaded numbers from the provider. It took less than 1 minute before the iDrive screen showed me my contacts. I have no tried several calls (both outbound and inbound) the sound is suberb, even when driving like 70 mph.
I have several SMS and MMS in the phone now, but apparantly it doesn't matter. When I unlock the car and start it the phone is connected within approx 5-8 sec (measured three times).
I had to pay $80 for the upgrade (which I felt was kinda steep) but now it is worth every penny. I cannot see, make or do anything in the iDrive which is related to SMS. Only dial.
One smooth thing about the BMW is that it shows all numbers from the phone mem. For me that is great since I have several numbers on certain persons, e.g. John Doe
Work 37403242
Mobile 29495445
Home 8373
In the iDrive this shows up as
John Doe W 37403242
John Doe M 29495445
John Doe H 8373
The tricky part is that I can no longer access the service menu in the phone to check the software version. Previously I was able to use the jog
>*<<*< to show the menu but it doesn't work anymore?
P.S.
My BMW is a 530xi Oct 2005 build with bluetooth only, no pro phone or nav.
Ok, hope it helps
