how long at the dealer for the upgrade, does it take all night like the 745 or can it happen is a few minutes.

by the way the dealer told me that tehy are suppsed to be able to update the software right online with your car so you dont have to bring it to the dealer, has anyone head of this?

Well if the SW has the capability of crashing the CCC, I would never risk an over the airwaves update. If it takes them 3 hours with a Fibre optic or Ethernet connection, it will take weeks over the air. One transmission failure and your computer is hosed. I would rather that hapopened while its in the service bay and the dealers responsibility.

Thats the official word. But I always leave the car overnight when they do this stuff. Just in case. They have been known to have to start it again if something happens during the update. Even a door being opened during the update can trigger this.

Took my (Sept 03 built) 545i in for an update today. I was on 11.2 and wanted to get the Sat. Radio hooked up. The car will not be done today. It seems it always takes overnight at my dealer for a software update. If it takes more than another day, the X5 loaner is going back in a body bag.

I suggest that you have the BMW Center check your software version. I have a '05 545i(SMG) that was built on October 5, and it has "Bluetooth" I ordered mine with Satellite Prep. and had the Sirius Tuner installed at the Center. I suspect that either the Center or the VPC upgraded the Software Version, so this may explain why the "Bluetooth" option is present.

Good Luck

If they use the same hardware to update the car as the 7 series there is no physical connection to the car, but is done wirelessly.

Hmmm! I don't think so. AFAIK The car is connected by cable for the upgrade and the coding if neccessary.
