Hi everyone. Have had car updated (2004 525d) with latest software + extra update required (a la Apple thread i linked to earlier).

Can confirm the "phone only working when initially paired" problem is now 100% resolved. And yes it is on 1.1.4. software so dont go round in circles re Apple software.

It really is a BMW problem, and that is it. The only limitiation i have is my car does not have a signal strength meter on the Idrive screen, perhaps this needs later hardware to get it?

Anyway so Iphoners it is perfectly possible to get it work beautifully with your BMW, but you'll need to pick your dealer very carefully. Once again the latest sofware they will suggest to you will not do it alone..

I spoke to Apple about going back to version1.1.2 (im on 1.1.4) and im afraid it is not possible, once New software updated it stays updated.........That was the way i was hoping to go. If however i have been given duff information by Apple and you can downgrade please let me know

Well, I have an 04 530i and I had read a lot of articles about MP3 and Bluetooth software upgrades for my car. Yesterday I got the software updated ( although I dont know the version of it ). Now Im able to play MP3 from my indash CD player and also my iPhone ( hacked and jailbroken with 1.1.4 on it currently) paired well and I got out and got in couple of times yesterday and it was in paired mode and seemed to worked well ( my WiFi was on as well )
I will keep you all updated.

I have a Treo 750 that was driving me nuts, doing the same thing, it would pair, then drop, then pair again, then drop, over and over and over. I tried everything I could think of, finally what ended up fixing the problem was to do a full blown hard reset of the device. Not a reboot, but a full "lose everything" reinstall reset. Works perfectly now. I don't know if there is a way to do this kind of "reset" with an iPhone but I would think it is worth a shot, especially since you seem to be having trouble after a firmware change.
