IOn reply to your post, Hormazd, the disabling of Assist, and installation of a NEW ULF box is a retrofit, however, it DOES disable Assist.

Because of the sheer # of people requesting Bluetooth, BMW made available, against their wishes, Bluetooth in leiu of assist.. However, I do not to this day believe that it works on the 5 or 6 series.. Period. maybe it is something brand new, but it wasn't around a couple weeks ago.

Apparently, the 2005 models have it working with BOTH because of some wiring harness change.. that is the reason they can't do a full retrofit in the 2004's. it isn't just a software upgrade.. the wiring harness need to be changed, as well.

Well in that case this retrofit has been available for some time. I was holding out for something that doesn't exist. I guess we will know on Monday if pharding's retrofit was successful.

No News Yet - They are still working on it.

Even though I dropped the car off on Saturday afternoon they did not start until approximately 1:30 pm on Monday. They had to reprogram the car. Unfortunately they put it on a slow computer. I hung around for four hours just to be told at 5 o'clock they could not get it done until tomorrow. To do this there are no hardware modifications on my car, just reprogramming. In the future whenever they reprogram my car I will never wait again on it. It is too unpredicatble. I am going to insist that they just call me when they have it done.

Bluetooth Upgrade was Successful !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Phone connects properly and phone book loads. BMW Assist is not disabled. The two work together. BMW Assist overides cellphone. Software upgrade blew out all my settings. Steering is firmer at low speeds similar to high speed steering.

I believe that I was first in US! Thanks to BMW, Motor Werks of Barrington, Illinois, Chris Roehm for contacting his buddy at BMW, Brink, and Chad. They thought this was rolled out at two dealerships first to work out the kinks.

My phone is charging right now so that I can go out and play. I will offer more comments shortly.
