Quick question for you guys just bought my 530 yesterday and after searches last night went in knowing what to ask/do for BT. Anyway found a tech that knows how to do it, the shops master I gues but the problem and converstion went as follows he said it's no problem but half the time the CIP ugrade crashes and a new TCU would be needed. He said this would be my responsibility if this happened, I asked if there might be a recall upgrade that would be needed anyway so they would have to do it and could just anable BT and if somerhitn went wrong and the TCU would need replacing it would not be my fault. He said sure but had service do a VIN search and no recalls. What should I do???

New member here. I bought a 04 about a year ago and was under the impression that it was bluetooth capable. Even had a card with bluetooth info. Well, finally got a bluetooth phone and figured out that I didn't have it or it was not enabled. I called a couple of dealers before I found this site and one said I cant get it the other said he would look into it a call me back. Can someone give me a definative answer on what it would take to get bluetooth enabled. Using info here I figured out that my car was built in 07/04. Based on what I have read I think I just need a software update. Can someone confirm? Glad I found this site. Thanks in Advance.

You are indeed correct, should only be a software upgrade to the communication portion of the software, which should not be any more than $ 200.00. Just make sure that your Cell Phone is compatable with BMW Bluetooth. If you care to post your make and model, someone here should be able to confirm their experience with same model Cell Phone. Good Luck

I had recently bought an 530i, my build date was 12/04. I have the BMW assist on the vehicle so it has the microphones and stuff. Will BMW charge an ridiculous amount to change the software on the vehicle? I have an Verizon LG VX8100. Does anyone else use this phone with BMW or is it not compaitble?

Hmmm, Not sure what you guys are describing, at such cheap prices; but the all new BT adapter that plugs into the CPT 9000 cradle etc. alone, is $295, the cradle is another $110 or so, and the software service is another $20 (to fire up CPT 9000 in iDrive). This is about what my dealer is charging me next week, as I have never had phone service in my early 04, so I have to start from scratch (with my E815 Verizon phone) Also, he will do an update of CIP and see what's left to be done for phone after that.

If you order your parts from the RI dealer (see parts and accessories board), you can get 20-30% off these pieces, however, you still need to go to the dealer for activation. No fool here: the last DIY chore I'll tackle is an electronic one on this car....

Cheers,
Ray Hul

See my thread below here on the announcement of the adapter.
