Thumbs up

I hope someone can answer my question regarding date of manufacture on my 530 inorder for me to get bluetooth. According to the sticker on my driver side door the date of maufacture is 03/04. However, I just gone done accessing my I-drive secret menu and the computer stated an exact date of manufacture to be 01.22.04?!? This is a big discrepancy, especially when the cut off date for bluetooth activation with only a software update is 03/04. I wonder if my hopes for get bluetooth has gone out the window.....any input is appreciated.

thanks in advance

You can call BMWNA for the exact date. I'm betting that the door jamb date is the accurate one -- the secret menu hasn't impressed me much as far as it providing anything truly valuable...

Rudy,

Thank for the fast reply. Someone told me the door jamb date is the completed build date for the car and the build date on the secret menu could be when the computer was built...or something like that. I will give BMWNA a call to find out and post my findings. In any case I gonna bring my car to the dealer for servicing that should be coming up.

Your dealer can give you the specifics of the date your car rolled off of the line using the VIN. My E60 had a production date of 03/04 on the door label but rolled off of the line on Feb 28/04. The VIN records from BMW are the most reliable.

FWIW, the production date for transition from old to new TCU's appears to be around the 7th to 10th of March/04.

My car is also a 3/04 build, and the secret computer menu gave a much earlier date. The door jam sticker turned out to be the right date as far as the month and year. The dealer or BMWNA can give you the exact day. I had my car's bluetooth activated with just a software upgrade.

Good luck.

FYI, my build complete date was 3/4/2004 and it came with the new TCU...

As I recall Rudy, and please correct me if my memory is bad, were there not a lot of posts about 2 years ago (when this whole BT retrofit started) that some cars built in early March had older TCU's? I recollect that first week of March production in 04 was hit or miss for the updated TCU.

Your memory may be better than mine -- I don't recall that situation but that doesn't mean you're not correct. It's probably safe to assume that the closer you are to the 3/04 cutoff, the more you need to double-check the part number of the TCU...

Well the car is at the dealership until Friday, i will sure find out if BT was able to be activated. It was nice to give them a laundry list of things to take care of when i dropped her off. I will repost the results when i pick her up tomorrow. Thanks for all the info guys!
