Hi there PPL..

I will try not to be boring with the subject.. So here is the problem.. I have double checked with my BMW dealer and they confirmed me that my car is 10/2004. According to few BMW reports that i have foung on this forum my car should have new TCU.. this one should support BT feature, and only software upgrade (retrofit) should be performed on car, so that the BT gets activated! Anyway i have a NAV Pro system..

I have called BMW the other day, but the guy there said that i have to go there with my car so that they can see if my car needs a hardware and software update, or just the software one.. The bad thisng is that this "Come and we will see" costs like 200?.. Thats around 260$ or a bit more..

If my car needs only software update then i will enable it, cause i can live with that but if i need the new TCU then i will forget it! I mean 2000? for a TCU and labour is tooooo much!

I am waiting for your advices!

PS: I am from Austria (Europe - car model)

Speaking strictly on North American vehicles, software updating is all that would be required.

I would suggest that you may want to look at the TCU, left side of trunk behind carpet cover. Pictures as to where it is are here :

Check the part number and ask your dealer if that TCU will permit BT with software enabling.

Can anyone from Europe confirm that the dates the BT service bulletin we've all seen apply to European cars as well? I'm not sure if Sasha's problem is with a dealer who doesn't understand things or whether it's true that his car may not support BT through just a software upgrade.

Keep in mind that I think the BT problems in the USA had something to do with an incompatibility between BT and BMW Assist...

I?m also interested if it only applies to US-cars. Did the software upgrade to latest CIP, have Telephone Professional (portable bluetooth phone), Nav Pro, car is built 2004-08, but the workshop (BMW dealer) couldn?t make it work with an external phone. Even brought the 'SI B84 13 04'-bullentin that explains which models is upgradeable, but it doesn?t state exactly how it is done though. Bmw says that I must buy a new TCU. Live in Sweden btw.

Anyone in Europe made this work? And if, any instructions to that I can pass along to the workshop?

<Just left my E60 for a new progman update (idrive crashing); I asked for BT retrofit (my E60 is a Nov 2005 built 2006 model); apparently, the dealer told me there wasn't just a software upgrade to do, although my car is a post 9/04 built E60. Will have a definite answer in 2 days , ans will keep you posted !

the 10.04 build should be just a CIP ugrade. However you have the dreaded Prof Phone. Another person suggested asking the dealer to do a software upgrade which reveals the bluetooth options and to DISABLE the BT Prof phone (I'm assuming option #638). My dealer says it wont make any difference. As its fairly cheap/free... fancy checking it out?
I looked at the version of my TCU and its *921 which is not supposed to be BT, however it does have a BT badge on it.!!! weird!!

Thank's for the hint, Miinty. When I upgraded to lastest CIP I asked them to disable the BT-phone, but it didn?t make any difference. Perhaps its the Prof Phone that is the problem.
Will go for the dual-simcard instead, until next car
