The new Nextel i605 just came out with full BT compatibility BT 1.1. The phone pairs up fine with the car. The phone shows the connection being succesful. The car works fine as a headset but when you get to Communications->Phone, it goes to Please Wait... for a while and then it says "Please activate Phone" after about 60 seconds. The connection does not drop and the phone always shows the connection open and the handset feature of Bt still works, but one cannot dial out in any way shape or form. I tried reconnecting the phone 10 times to no avail. Is this the symptom when a phone is not compatible. Phone is too new to be on the list (3 days). I am on V15.2

Thanks!

PabloR,

I just paired the Nextel I605 with my car perfectly. I can make and receive calls directly through the IDRIVE. The settings on the phone are as follows:

Hands free- On

Right now in my car as just an audio device, pairing fails on the BMW side, the phone pairs fine. Ponster got it to work on a preproduction model...

ok, then the phone doesn't pair, it just works as a handsfree device, its not that it fails on the bmw side.

MOST bluetooth phones work OK if you just want to make and end phone calls, the phone is sendig the data the way it would send the data to a bluetooth handsfree, but it is not sending the extra data (all your contacts) in the same language BMW handles.

We got it down to the wrong software version. Version R2F00.01 works pretty well with possibly just the phonebook not transferring over. What ships with the phone from Nextel (R2F00.00) does not pair properly and only works as an audio headset device. Ponster has it working with his newer, straight from Motorola phone. As soon as I get my phone upgraded I will test the phonebook transfer.

I am very interested in how this works out as I am getting close to pulling the trigger and purchasing a Nextel i605. If you have any success please post. On 5-16-05 I have an appointment to have Bluetooth programmed on my 2005 530. It should have came with it but didn't. I took delivery in January 2005 my SA said I would have to bring the car back to get the Bluetooth installed. We danced around who would pay for it, but I don't plan on paying for any programming time for something the car should have come with. Besides I am taking it in for other software issues. (The oil service interval indicated stopped at 12,000 and is not counting down any longer. It's hung up at 12,000 miles)
