Hi All,
For those of you like me, who have an early model, BMW has just released news of a Blutooth Adapter that plugs into our CPT 9000 cradle and you get BT on your updated phones (eg my E815). I know nothing about it, yet, but got the word from David Rice in Parts at Crevier BMW, CA.

That is awesome news!! Thanks for posting, Ray. I too had the phone cradle installed when I got my car 2 years ago. My old v60 just died and I have been without integrated phone for past few months. I'm going to order the plug-in and see if my new Razr will work. Beats having to have new TCU installed at over $2K to get bluetooth. I love this board!!

I haven't heard back from either my local dealer, or David, in Parts at Crevier in California, who sent me the info. But, as I understand it, from previous research, I will have to: Buy and have installed the CRADLE, then, have the iDrive updated to operate the phone functions (5 minutes miniscule switching, I gather). I think the cradle is about $150.
So it's probably going to be a $500 job with all said and done, but I think that's a solid investment in updating the car for current convenience and trade-in value. And as pointed out above, that beats the heck out of $2000 TCU upgrade (and you'd still have to buy the cradle).
The new range of phones that will work with this special unit are specifically listed on Page 3 of the attached PDF memo.
However, we won't get to use the car's antenna or charging facilities. And I guess my phone will continue to ride around in that "storage" gap under the CD slot.
Bottomline: not a cheap fix, but not as expensive as originally offered by BMW. I think we should thank them for urging Motorola to bring this to our (niche) market--only 1,000 will be made.
Cheers,

What great news..... finally, being the proud owner of one of the first 545's delivered in southern california I have been very interested in this issue and have harassed my dealer monthly. He will be just as glad as I am.

I'm also waiting on a price from Crevier for new bluetooth adapter. I do know that you will need to order cradle (I assume that they still make it) have it installed and then have software upgraded for iDrive. I had cradle installed over 2 years ago to work with my V60 phone. Total cost for parts and installation was $250.00. So basically, I'll spend another $250 or so to purchase the bluetooth insert and I'll hopefully have all functionality as newer 5 series.
As for the antenna connectivity and charging that the cradle provided, the antenna reception (car booster) wasn't all that great anyways; I will miss the in car charging functionality however, especially given the drain on batteries when running bluetooth. Oh well, at least I'll have the full integration that I've been missing since my old v60 went kaput.

So this BT Upgrade Module CPT9000 Kit will give us early E60 owners that can't get bluetooth to be able to have bluetooth functionality on our I-Drive screens etc?? When an incoming call comes in we will see the INCOMING call on our I-Drive screen? Will our phonebook show on the I-Drive screen too?
