Hello all,

I have a 545i build date of 2/04.

Garry, the parts guy from BMW of Newport RI, ensures me that I can have Bluetooth capabillity if I either:

1) Relace the TCU and then get service toupdate the software (at my expense, and not covered by warrantee)

2) Purchase the CTP9000 cradle setup, and the BMW Motorola bluetooth phone upgrade module and I'm done?

Option 2 is less exspensive, but I believe I have read on this forum that because of my build date of 2/04, that my
TCU would be incompatable with this setup.

Whats the real deal? Can I do option 2 with my current TCU and w/o requiring a newer version of software?

thank you,

You should be able to do option 2 with the original TCU in your car. The BTUM option uses the CPT 9000 software in the TCU. The BT functionality is added by the module you place in the cradle. The car thinks it is interfacing through a hard wired connection with a CPT 9000.

Many members have gone this route rather than replacing the TCU.
