I am in the same case, montreal, qc,canada and the technician said that they can bo nothing for bluetooth because my car is 30 janyary 2004. So is it really the case ?
Actually for you, the tech is correct. Any car built before March 2004 cannot get BT without replacing the TCU, which can run upwards of $1,200 (US).

Are you sure of the 08/04 build date? Look on the driver's door jam for a white sticker with the date. If indeed it is an Aug '04 build date, all you need is to have the dealer activate the BT though if you truly have v 30 you have the proper software. Search for the PDF here and it will walk the dealer through the proper procedure.

Edit: here's the document. Print it out and bring it to the dealer. Have them review bullet point 4...

Here my TCU info:
84.11 6948921-01
232925 23
USA 19.06.2004
BMW everest E60 US
SW 06.04.04 HW 09.01.01
BT:00E00C547235
PK:9238
ESN:146-02387263

That's the whole label, so is this compatible with BT.

You should be good to go. The link below is to realoem.com where they list the TCU used up until March 2004 as 84116942592. From March '04 until Sept '04 the part number matches yours part number as 84116948921. Post Sept '04 they moved to a new TCU with part number 84116955688, but that was in use until March '05...

Basically your TCU part number matches the March '04 to Sept '04 TCU which can be activated with the directions I posted earlier.

Yeah, well I am speaking from experience with US cars though I don't think (but can't prove) that there were differences between Canadian cars and US cars. I think they basically built cars for the North American market.

As I recall the BT activation is not free, why don't you offer to pay for the dealer to try the directions I attached. It may cost you a couple hundred bucks but you might gain the imeasurable satisfaction of watching your dealer eat crow if/when it works...

Unfortunately I can't help here. Cars for North America come with the microphone standard. I don't know the set ups for the rest of the world but as I recall you can get options like a "media pack" that would include differentiates things like Professional vs Business Nav and Pro vs Bus radio. Those options help determine whether BT is part of the car. I would guess that if you don't have the mic built in, you don't have the Professional radio or Nav required to get BT, but that is purely a guess on my part. Sorry I cannot be more helpful...
