My Ride: 04' 545i
hi guys, i just bought a certified pre-owned 08/2004 545i, no BT option on i-drive got the version 30 software on it. Dealer said i need a module but i dont trust him. Did my homework but just not sure if it's a hardware or software problem. I got the Bmw assist and its workin'.any feedback would apreciated.

Are you sure of the 08/04 build date? Look on the driver's door jam for a white sticker with the date. If indeed it is an Aug '04 build date, all you need is to have the dealer activate the BT though if you truly have v 30 you have the proper software. Search for the PDF here and it will walk the dealer through the proper procedure.
Edit: here's the document. Print it out and bring it to the dealer. Have them review bullet point 4...

I got the worst service from this dealer, once they made the sale.

Most dealers are poorly educated about these cars. Bring them the print out and if they balk, go elsewhere. By the way, adding your location details will help with future questions...

Hmm. Good question. As I recall it is located in the trunk behind one of the quarter panels. I think it has a Motorola and a Bluetooth symbol on it. Doesn't mean its the right one but it should be there. Again, with an 08/04 build date, unless the previous owner had the TCU replaced with the older version, you will have it. Now I suppose it is possible that the original TCU failed and a dealer replaced it with an older, non-BT capable TCU, but I seriously doubt it.
