This problem is probably not limited to the V3, but when my address book comes up on the I-drive screen and displays multiple entrys for an individual, there is nothing that distinguishes their home, work or moble number from the other.
Is there a trick to getting the I-drive display to list whether the number shown is the home, work or moble number?

You would have to program a seperate contact and number for each of the 3 numbers. When you enter the persons name, you would have to put a letter at the end of their name to denote H=home
W= Work And M= mobile, so it would appear in I drive as follows
Bob H (555) 123-4567
Bob W(555) 456-7890
Bob M (555) 789-1234
If you have many contacts it would take a bit of time but you would acheive your desired results. I did this for the contacts that I did not remember which number was which, the ones I know I left as is.
By the way , this problem is Motorola driven, I have read many posts here from people with other types of phones where this does not happen.

This problem with Addressbook exists with all phone models. I have a Nokia and it is the same issue. The workaround is to create multiple contacts for the same person in ur phone

Thanks ya'll for your replies. Just what I did not want to hear. I knew I could do that but did not want to corrupt my address book like that, especially since I am thinking about getting the software that allows me to sinc my outlook contacts with my phone. I will have to think about this one a bit.
I do love the bluetooth connectability though. Really cool.
I have the same issue with my Moto E 815. there is a way around this but it will cost you a bit of time.

gabman, do your numbers show up in i-drive as you indicated (ie. (555) 123-4567? Mine show up as 5551234567.

Hi
I have a NOKIA 6230 connected to the car's system. I do have the same problem with notebook.
I doubt whether the reason is the following.
As you know the cell phone stores data
a) Part of it in the phone card b) The rest in the memory card
I guess that part a) is visible
Part b) is hidden since bluetooth system has not access to memory card.
Should I be right, the solution would be easy, because ther is an option to transfer notebook data from phone card to memory card and the oposite.
Have you made any R+D in this way?

Although not helpful to guys with Moto phones, this issue does not exist with all phones - I have a Sony Ericsson K750i and multiple numbers for a single contact work fine; they come up automatically with an (h), (w) or (m) after the number.

Hi Inmediate,
In my experience both memories on a 6230 are synchronised to the car's memory.
I have several numbers per contact on the 6230i.
The car only sync's the main number.
Numbers I want to have extra on the I-drive, I copy them to the SIM card.
The phone's memory is set to only phone memory.
So out of the car I only see the numbers on the phone memory.
In the car I see both the numbers of the phone memory and the SIM memory.
Eric

Is your pocket PC on the BMW recognized list? There is a BMWNA webpage with all the updated recognized models listed; it's here too, somewhere, but I'm not sure where or how up to date it is. Assuming that yours is recognized (officially, or manually through the BT system), you may just have to renew the phonebook handshake. On the BTUM adapters, this means pushing the blue button for about a second (no longer), then waiting 2-3 minutes for the update to transfer. Don't rush this, it takes that long, even if you only have a few listings. Check back, to your i drive phone book and they should be all there. If not, there's likely a compatibilty problem, although others, not listed on BMW's list, seem to work.
Good luck,
Ray Hull

Older Pocket PC operating system devices do NOT support the OBEX Bluetooth Profile necessary for Address Book Transfer.
The new Windows Mobile 5.0 OS should support OBEX, however.... so look out for new PDAs & Smartphones which will work with the idrive.
