Gave them a call there and they said the only way to play MP3s was with an auxiliary connection. They did say bring it to them to have a look so I might take a trip up on Saturday morning...
Good luck!

Providing that the iPod programming is already in place for the Dension installation, however I don't think the OP has neither iPod nor BT currently.
I don't have either at the mo and the stereo won't play MP3s on a disc. However, I do have the phone buttons on the steering wheel, which would suggest some amount of TCU wiring. We'll see how it goes. If I can get the stereo to play MP3 discs, it'll be a good solution for a while.

That button is standard on every steering wheel. But my guess is that most vehicles (ie., 5er) should have been pre-wired for BMW Assist (at least in the US). So, hopefully that is what you have as far as wiring goes. Your exsiting TCU might or might not support BT. Again, let me know if thats you need.

Well, here's the picture. Doesn't looks like there's any wiring looms...

Think you need to ask them for the software update to enable your DVD player to play MP3 CD's.
Just lie and tell them you have a mechnic friend at BMW northampton - miles away) and he says its a retrofit option or something (playing dumb) but as you live local to Covenrty you though ud ask the question - I did the same thin kit was cov or lesta branch but i had to show them a mp3 bulletin article from here.
Btw my car is a sat nav pro version - you will need sat nav pro

I have the factory fit bluetooth in my car.

The pro's:- It's really to access from the I drive

The Con's:- The compatible phone's that work are limited and sound quality is average, sometimes less so

The dealer said to re-code it for the newer phones would be ?150

Get a headset, it's better sound quality
