Adding BMW Bluetooth (Got a £1300 quote)

Hi All,
I have had a look through the forum to see if this has been covered already but nothing so far.
I've bought a 2005 525d E60. Was looking at fitting the "official" BMW Bluetooth car kit. Wollastons BMW in Northampton quoted me ?1,300. They claimed there was a lot of labour in wiring and the like.
Couple of questions. Are the new BMW ULFs still worse than a separate kit (e.g. Parrot).
Anyone in the UK got a reasonable price for retrofitting a BMW Bluetooth car kit?
Is it an option to buy the ULF and fit it yourself?
Failing this, anyone have recommendations for someone in the Northampton area who will install an aftermarket kit like a Parrot?

Go and try a different dealer. In US, I got my programming done for US$120 providing that a workable TCU is installed. Also, if you need a EURO spec TCU, then PM me. Good luck.

No TCU in the car at the moment. Yeah, would be interested in getting a Euro Spec ULF. I take it installing them yourself is not an option due to programming?

Open the boot and remove the panels (on the lefthand, UK and US spec should have the same TCU location, I hope). Take a picture of it and post it up here.

as far as im aware UK cars from september 2004 have the wiring in place for Bluetooth and the TCU in place too, which means it just needs enabling via software.
Im sure if you go to another dealer say sytner coventry you will get a better quote for just the work that needs doing - incedently sytner cov bmw quoted for my feb 2004 (no tcu or wiring in place) ?2000+. however have a look at a site called navmantv - he reckons its genuine bmw bluetooth for ?1000 fitted
Im just going to buy Dension GW 500, and the BTA1500 adapter for ?550 fitted and its supoosedly better

You need to check and make sure if the car is pre-wired or not. If so, then its a simple plug and play. Otherwise, you might have to spend more $$ on wiring and programming, etc.

I'm tempted by the GW500 + BTA1500 But from reading this forum, I may need a CD Changer and MP3 software upgrade. There was also mention of an iPod upgrade but I don't know if that's different to the MP3 upgrade. Any wisdom?

sytner coventry are good, Ask them you want to play Mp3 files, and if you have electric mirrors mention you want the option to open and close your mirrors with the key fob. they charged me ?70+VAT, my local lesta dealer said it wasnt doable - little they know. coventry will always give something a try.
If you are gonna use a GW 500 - you dont need the IPOD retrofit as the GW 500 will automatically do it.
