I'd never heard of a 745d either - I have LOTS of questions:

1. Does the 745d have the sequential turbo that's in the 535d?

2. Will it fit in the 5-series (3. A twin turbo 545d would be BONKERS :'( )

Just googled and learned the following:

745d V8 - 330hp / 750Nm

Phaeton V10 - 313hp / 750Nm
3. Does that make the 745d the most powerful stock diesel engine in any car?

4. From the looks of things the 745d will be faster than ANY other 7 - is that right ?

5. What could a remap achieve on a twin turbo 545d ?

6. Are BMW thinking about an M diesel?
did you not read my second post giving the remapped values?

Did you forget the 750i (5.9s) and the 760i(5.4s) agains the 745d(6.6s)?

It wont fit its too big for an e60

Hi 700700 - wondered where you were today

Didn't realise they were remapped values. What about the sequential turbo though?

I didn't mean fastest to 60 - I meant 'fastest' around a track 50-70 overtaking etc....

It's a 4.5 litre V8 isn't it - if they can get a v10 in the M5 why can't this be squeezed into the e60?

The 745d would be very fast once it gets going. I wouldnt write it off against the 750.

Man that was one of the harshes days I can remember, I guess you read the story behind it, apparently an electrical fault - what an electrical fault then!! :'(

Loved that car, twas amazingly fast, but time moves on, and the E60 is beautiful, miss the grunt though....
Just out of interest, could it keep up with a 535d? I remember when I had the Aero, nothing this side of an M3 could keep up with it... (I remember Jeremy Clarkson reviewing it on Top Gear, saying that in 2nd gear from 40-70mph, it was quicker than a 911 Turbo! )
The old swede is definitely fast but feels very dated now especially when I jump in my E60 after I've had a drive in it. It has a few big probs- front wheel drive, poor suspension and steering, old vauxhall platform. Front wheel drive just cant take much more than 200 horses especially when they are turbo horses. It pulls and torque-steers like crazy. Ours has had an exhaust system and K&N filter fitted and has an amazing 3rd gear pull (2nd provokes wheelspin on anything but perfect tarmac and I havent seen any of those in Sofia for some time). Overall the 535 is faster, from a rolling start, however, it wont pull away by that much. From a standing start the BMW would disappear never to be seen again. Its a shame that GM having their big financial problems have totally forgotten about Saab. I reckon Saab has great potential with some of the best designers, top safety reputation and their own special way of doing things but . The 9-5 is an 8 year old model and instead of making a new one that have given it a mild facelift you just dont compete against zi Germans like that

4423cm3 engine with 750nm from 1900-2500rpm and 330bhp at 3800rpm. I think it was sequential

Have you driven the 745d though - I think you would need to have done so to make this statement?

2 things strike me here:

1. The 745li is just 0.6 of a second faster than the 745d to 60mph. Beyond that point the mind boggling levels of torque in the 745d would (i am certain) give it the edge over the petrol car.

2. It doesn't seem to me from the stats that the 4.5 litre engine is being pushed as hard as the 3.0litre engine in the 535d.

Since it is already the most powerful diesel production car in the world it probably does't matter, but it would be incredible to see what the engine could do.

I disregard the 0-60 figures too, in real world the 745d should be a fair bit faster than the 745 petrol.

If you don't mind me asking - are you thinking of getting one?
